Videotron Speed at 10pm Montreal Area

Hi, I'm having speed problems in my area around 10pm. The speed goes down to 3-4Mbps on download (on anything including speedtests, I'm on a 30Mbps plan) and upload is ok... Is anyone having the same problem?

I'm not in Montréal, but everything is fine for me on the south shore.

For that kind of problem it would probably be better if you called Vidéotron directly. I suppose your cell could be congested.

Actually I'm not on Videotron and not in Montreal, I'm on Acanac in Chateauguay and for the last 3 weeks I've been having speed issues from around 7 the speed starts to go down. I now that Acanac can get my speed down to 15Mbps in peak hours, but apparently that's not the problem. It gets down to 2-3 Mbps.

A few people in Montreal are having the problem as well and I'm trying to figure out if it's Acanac's problem or it's congestion in specific areas. That's why I was asking in the Videotron forum.

I've already contacted Acanac and they're sending a tech to my house soon. When the tech shows up the problem won't be there since it gets to 3Mbps at around 10pm. My signal has already been checked 2 times by Videotron and everytime it's excellent. So i'm not sure what they're going to check but I'm willing to let them do their work so they can find the cause and fix it.

When you talk about "a few people in Montreal" are you talking about Acanac customers? Or are there some Vidéotron customers too?

I understand.

In this case it sounds like to me it could be the link between Vidéotron and Acanac, but let's wait and see if other people here are aware of something.

Yep I also asked that they check if any speed limiting actions where taken by them in the last days and to check the status on their link to Videotron to make sure it's not the bottle neck.

They opened a ticket with Videotron and they basically blew them off because I use P2P and had large amounts of data transfered from and to my computer. Comming from Videotron, I guess more than 50gb is a lot of data...

Well it could if I was the only one affected and didn't stop my torrents when doing speed tests... But that's not the case. I just hope that the cable support checked that their link with videotron wasn't maxed out during this time before contacting videotron..

Where can I file a complaint? If it comes to that I might, but for now my ticket is not closed at Acanac so we'll see what the next move will be. Up to now Glenna has done a good job and I don't think that she'll let me down just now...

In the last 2 days I made speed tests at different times and recorded the speeds. It clearly shows that the later it gets in the evening, the slower the speeds. She wants me to send it to her so she can forward it to Videotron...

You can register to speedtest.net
That way, all the speed tests will be saved in your account and you won't have to "record" them. I hope you weren't talking about an actual video! haha

Tu peux aussi demander à Lynn (employé d'Acanac) qui est pas mal présente dans le forum Canadian Broadband d'y jeter un coup d'oeil...

Oui, mais je ne crois pas qu'une personne de plus va aider la situation. Je communique avec Glenna 2-3 fois par jour via le system de ticket et ça semble bien fonctionner. Il me semble que Glenna est la bonne personne pour les problèmes de cable. C'est elle qui est responsable de réglé les problèmes avec Videotron.

Jusqu'à maintenant j'ai un bon service de la part du support, ça été un peu long (2-3 jours) à partir, mais je vois que ça avance. Je viens de recevoir un message de Glenna qui me donne un rendez-vous avec un tech de videotron mercredi prochain.

Distributel found the problem. A router for the Montreal region was overloaded. They should have the problem fixed next week. In the end it was just Acanac's users that had the problem.

Penses-tu que ca va régler le problème de mon beau-frère qui est sur Distributel et qui a des lenteurs depuis une couple de semaines? Il est à St-Césaire (dans le 450). Possible que leur liens passe par ce même routeur je suppose??

il a bien essayé, mais on lui dit qu'il est "fou" quasiment. On dit pas de problèmes de notre coté... en tous cas, on va attendre de voir si c'est réglé pour toi, si ca marche, on aura ton billet en référence ?

Mon billet est chez Acanac, pas directement a distributel. C'est l'ingenieur de Distributel qui a trouvé le problème hier, donc ils ont peut-être mis les agents qui répondent au téléphone au courant... Si non, le nom de l'ingénieur est Steve, peut-être qu'en appelant il poura référer la personne du support à lui...
