What's the advantage?

T-mobile already charges 49.95/month for their own tier one provider service when you bring your own device.

Why should I go with an MVNO and get no roaming or any of the other small perks that come with using a tier one provider when the price is the same?

There are no '2G-only' T-Mobile data plans. You are free to use whatever is avaliable, whether it's GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSPA, HSPA+, as long as you subscribe to data.

Sorry. *First 100MB at up to 4G speeds

After that you get throttled to 120kbps aka 2G speeds.

TMobile's Unlimited Plus plan allows for 2gb of data at full speed for $69.99 w/2 yr. contract. Or you can get the no contract plan for $60/month with the same allowance. Solavei offers unlimited with 4gb at full speed for $49/month. You do get roaming with Solavei. If you have multiple lines for your family, you can take advantage of their referral incentives and save even more.
