I had already checked for the lastest firmware . The router is a Dlink-815 which works ok via DSL but erractic via mediacom.That was confusing.

I dont see this issue very often, but some routers do cause speed issues.

I went out and bought a Netgear router and it works ok with Mediacom and bellsouth. So the new Dlink router was flaky.
