 | reply to CharterTech I am grabbing the popcorn, this thread should end well.
We can't even get a legitimate way to check our bandwidth usage and they are setting up things that may or may not be able to correctly decipher what type of data we are using.
I really hope all the fiber being laid in this town is someone else. |
|
 | reply to CharterTech It will be slowed down to 15Mbps on the first offense for 30 days from first offense. Seconds offense 10Mbps for 30 days.
If two or more offenses happen in a month 500Kbps. |

Is this only if you have exceeded your cap or are you guys simply going to be monitoring EVERYTHING we do on the net?
Cripe! Who's the brain dead individual that keeps coming up with the totally stupid ideas Charter has started deployng lately? Are you people TRYING to lose customers?
Personally, I have NEVER used any torrents and I think that is one of the slowest and dumbest ways to get anything any how, so monitor away!! -- The Firefox alternative. »www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/ |
|
 | reply to CharterTech That's good. I've forwarded this information to several hundred other customers in my regional area as well as other technology/media forums. I am sure you want your customers to know that you are doing all you can to end the reprehensible practice of file sharing. |

Ever play World of Warcraft? They use it for upgrade distribution, and it's a legitimate useful protocol for distributing huge amounts of data around the world.
When my son upgraded his copy, his 12G download saturated Charter's 100M service. For well seeded sources like Wow, it works like a champ.
Charter is going to fall all over themselves as they step on very legal and legitimate users of torrents. They, like you, view the use as nothing but copyright infringement and that is very far from the truth. While I don't agree with stealing content, this is just another step in service agnostic internet access slowly being constrained into what corporations will permit us to enjoy. |

I suspect that this individual is pointing out the ISP "6 strikes" copyright enforcement agreement with the RIAA/MPAA: » arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2011···nt-plan/» yro.slashdot.org/story/12/07/13/···-delayedI guess the techs have been given training on it or are now being told it is coming down. I think it is just the same system as today where the RIAA/MPAA sends Charter a letter and Charter passes it on to the customer but this time there is a predefined set of "strikes". I never download anything illegal but this bothers me anyway since it strikes me as a private organization playing judge and jury on someones access to the internet but I guess we will see how it goes. |

This should be rather entertaining. I am sure there will be plenty of people who fall for this troll's post believing that Charter would choose to release this information to the public via some unverified account on DSLR. -- I do not, have not, and will not work for AT&T/Comcast/Verizon/Charter or similar sized company. |

the six strikes plan would probably go over better with end users in general i suspect |

@zed260 @Charter While those specifics are not verified, we do reserve the right to do so as can be read here: bit.ly/RU4Jvy
so they reserve the right but not commenting on this supposedly also they reserve that right on business connections to |

 | reply to CharterTech So, Charter is going to act as the RIAA judge, jury and executioner. So much for due process.
Good to see Charter standing up for the rights of their customers. *rollseyes* |

Sorry your son doesn't need to "seed" anything. Very few "legit" uses of torrents. yes there are SOME so don't go saying I said all torrents are illegal.
WoW can use some other way of delivering it's content. |
|
 | reply to BF69 I am assuming this is part of their strike process. Which SHOULD be a case for civil court. This is the RIAA circumventing the court process to actually PROVE that someone is doing something wrong and Charter looks like they are willing to act as their enforcer instead of making them use the right process. |
