Re: Pirate Bay site sinks, Swedish police raid its ISP

As well as arrest and detain it's founder.

»www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree ··· rate-bay

"Gottfrid Svartholm will be kept in detention for at least two more weeks on suspicion of hacking into a Swedish IT company connected to the country's tax authorities. According to Prosecutor Henry Olin the extended detention is needed 'to prevent him from having contact with other people.' The Pirate Bay co-founder is not allowed to have visitors and is even being denied access to newspapers and television. . . .

"Since he hasn't been charged officially in the Logica case the Pirate Bay co-founder could only be detained for a few days.

"But, after a request from Prosecutor Henry Olin this term was extended for another two weeks mid-September, and last Friday the District Court decided that Gottfrid could be detained for another two weeks.

"To prevent Gottfrid from interfering with the investigation the Prosecutor believes it's justified to detain him for more than a month without being charged. The Pirate Bay co-founder is not allowed to have visitors and is being refused access to newspapers and television. . . . The Prosecutor hasn't ruled out a request for another extension of Gottfrid's detainment in two weeks, if the investigation is still ongoing."

That is outrageous. How come EU, UN, USA, etc do not protest such inhumane treatment...for six weeks now? No wonder Assange fears extradition to Sweden.

Anonymous attacks Sweden for Pirate Bay closure

»mybroadband.co.za/news/quick-new ··· ure.html

Pirate Bay accused of collecting users' IP addresses

Summary: The Pirate Bay, used by millions worldwide to file-share copyrighted content and free-for-all works alike, is accused of collecting IP addresses of its registered users.
Torrent file and Magnet link sharing site The Pirate Bay has been accused of logging potentially identifiable information about its users, including email and IP addresses.

@pokex, who describes themselves as a "rootadmin at AnonOps," named after the website thought to be used by hacking collective Anonymous, took to Twitter this week to claim the Sweden-based site kept a database of information, including data that users might not want to end up in the hands of the authorities.

Why didn't you quote the updates to the story? It is a NON story. I guess this makes it clear where you stand.

I agree with one responder to the ZDnet article that I too trust Pirate Bay over ZD or CD net any day.

Pirate Bay has to have a way to ban those who deliberately upload stuff laced with malware. But they are NOT storing IP address for authorities to grab. You should have a little more faith in PB.

They are storing..they don't ban..and they will not survive..and Gottfrid Svartholm is still in Limbo..but at least he is home.

Where do I stand ? get serious...and could care less where you do. But if you use it to handle copyright material and you think you have a get out of jail free card..think again.

I know for certain of one uploader they banned for lacing the uploads with malware. This was many years ago.

I don't know what they are CURRENTLY doing, or have done, since the site was mostly abandoned several years ago. Who would go there after that? I'm talking about before that. You lumped the site as it is today together with the site as it was many years ago and I am calling you on it. If you want to claim that the site TODAY is storing IP addresses to give to the RIAA or whatever ok.

How do you know why they are storing the addresses? How do you know they are lying when they say they are stored in RAM only for 48 hours? Where's your proof? I am not saying they are not TODAY doing what you are claiming but I don't see proof of it or proof of why they are doing it or if the storage is in RAM only for a very short period or what. Pirate Bay is not the site it used to be and hasn't been for several years. Even so, I'd like some proof they are storing IP addresses in order to betray their users. So, where is your proof?

The case will test whether an IP address is sufficient evidence

A landmark case in the US will test whether internet piracy claims made by copyright firms will stand up in court.
