So how is this different than a STB feee?

All cable companies charge a fee for their STBs. In fact so do DirecTv and Dish Network. But charge for a cable modem and oh god forbid all hell breaks loose. I'm not seeing the difference. Don't get me wrong I love free hit as much as the next guy but I'm seeing how this is different. Same people complaining about $4 are the same ones gladly paying $20 a month for a DVR. Which to me is a rip off.

Maybe but that's more about price not whether or not they should be charged one in the first place.

For what it's worth, though, an STB is doing a lot more than a cable modem is.

That is because the fee used to be part of the price you were paying. the rental was not free it was all ready included.

It's just a hidden rate increase.
