Re: New to 30/5. Router recommendation?
I don't have the WNDR3700 anymore.
I've noticed my connection being quite erratic based on some random speed tests and anecdotal experiences with web pages loading, facebook chat dropping.
Being new to cable connections, I'm just wondering if it's because the bundled modem/router (Motorola SBG6580) and if there're things I can do to get the most out of my connection.
Also now that TWC is charging us for modem rental, I figured I'll look into equipment upgrade.
I have a Motorola SB6141 and ASUS RT-N66U and this combination has been working great.
At first with a Netgear cg3000d-RG cable modem/Router combo and RR Turbo, I was getting a consistant 20-30 mbs Down/2 mbs Up. Then, after about 1 or 2 years my speed went down to a consistant 14 mbs/ 1.3 mbs.
The speeds dropped a bunch for me, on Turbo. Not sure why, it is as if they got cheap and decided that the customers were getting too much speed for the price of Turbo. We have the cable package/ with the box, DVR, and with RR Turbo Internet. We have been with the same comapny almost 20 years. It changed hands many times before Time Warner took it over way back when.
I just think it sucks when you ave really decent speeds for a long time and have a good cable modem, and pay $160.00 per month nowadays. Then, they chop the speed way down.
Turbo should give more than 14 mbs down/2 mbs up. IMHO.
Turbo is now 20/2. If you aren't getting that, get a D3-compatible modem and that should solve the problem.

Uh, how old is that modem? I can't find any specs on it with a few quick google searches. Might simply be time to replace it.
