Re: Bell Usage Meter counting LAN data?

for 13 years I have been with Bell, laugh, it's ok....

retentions sent me the 2701 modem/wireless router last year and i removed my dd-wrt routter. like i said, I told the rep on the phone, if i remove the phone line from your router/modem and transfer on my home network, you shouldnt see it or charge me for it. She softly giggled and said she would talk to tech, came back and confirmed it. I then told her I was removing the modem asap, she said it was a good idea? wtf.

I was away all weekend, no usage, any only transfered 2 .iso images from my NAS to my Desktop last night, approx 10GB. And today it is showing on my data usage 10GB approx. for yesterday!!!!!!!!

I dont believe this is actually ok to do, I would like to bump this up a level and do more. Their is NO WAY bell should charge me for my internal network traffic.

Call me a liar, bullsh*t or whatever you want, I know what im seeing...

If LAN was counted... Wouldn't both Download and Upload be counted ?

From what I gather here, you downloaded your ISO images and it equals to 10Gb...

yes the bandwidth meter is counting upload and download. one of the items that stands out from my previous month would be that I downloaded a 5GB file FROM THE INTERNET and then transfered it from that PC to another in my house. How is it that Bell should be able to charge me for the internal transfer, I don't know?

I dont know how it is calculating the usage up/down, but when I get home later this week I will be all over this like a spider monkey. I will track usage and transfer of large internal files and see what I can confirm. If I screwed something up, I will be the first to admit it. But like I have said, I know what my usage is and this just isn't what is being reported.....

I'm not saying your crazy... but to conclude Bell is counting LAN while your friends barely streamed 300mb... is pretty much a wild assumption.

Would be fun if you could post a picture of the Bell bandwith tracker.

I'm also assuming it's wildly exaggerating LAN B/W too. The reporting is broken, hopelessly so... not out of the realm of possibilities for it to times it by 100 or a MILLION. It's not the users, it's the Ghost in da MACHINE that's phoqued.

Broken yes... but from 300mb of streaming to 10Gb ?

If 2 users are reporting the same reading on the same day, there might something fishy. But LAN counting...

I don't care what it says for LAN. It can be 1X or 100000000X, it's NOT supposed to count that. And since its screwed, of course it can 1000X it, it's broken and Bell is making the users pay for its broken reporting.

I'm not calling you a liar. What I'm saying is that how is Bell able to monitor your network traffic? I they were to do that with me, and calculate both download/upload on my inhouse network, I would end-up with 10TO of bandwidth/month.

If I were you, I would check for a trojan installed on 1 or more of your computers.
