Re: Connection issues with Century Link

I unplugged each end a couple times and will see if that helps at all. The room the problem machine in is fairly far away from the router room so it would be hard to just test another cable.

• Is this a Windows box? If so what OS

• Take one of you wireless machines and plug that into the cable that is in the room with the troublesome box.

• Same or did it go away?

Win XP.

I installed a new cable today as the problem had persisted. Of course...the problem wasn't resolved. Still dropping randomly. Anyone have any other suggestions? The computer seems to be perfectly fine otherwise. I guess I could replace the NIC but I can't imagine that's causing the problem. Anyhow any further suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks

It is in fact the service. Will make the phone call(slams face on desk). I think the MOST frustrating aspect of this DSL situation is; I had AOL DSL like 12 years ago and a machine could remain online for months straight. But even when the service here is relatively sound I'm lucky to go a day or two without any interruption of service. Fortunately the brief outages generally only last a couple minutes it's just baffling that a service can be less adequate than something along the same lines from over a decade ago and supported by AOL. O well, rant over.

Customer Service said they're aware of the issue and that they'll call us when it's fixed. It's been going on for 3+ weeks so not sure how long they've been aware of the problem and working on it or if it was just a response to get me off the phone.

Why is it that the centurylink Modem page shows my connection at 8.849/0.878 Mbps but when I run a speedtest on speakeasy it comes back .75/.69 and in that range consistently? Also, 5 days and still haven't heard back from CL.

Century Link, your team is absolutely worthless or else I wouldn't be on a forum trying to resolve the issue. Getting rid of this garbage ISP immediately.
