Opened the screw on lid for where one pours the oil. I still saw oil there. I measured the dip stick and it showed right below max. I started the truck up and let it run for a few minutes. It now shows a little more than half way between min and max. So that means it was probably less than in the middle yesterday, and I incorrectly measured it, right?

Wait a few minutes after shutting off the engine before you measure the oil. Remove the dipstick, wipe it clean, reinsert it fully, then remove it again and look at the level. If it's between min and max, there's no need to add oil.
