[Exede] accessing router through exede modem

Ok, Im a rancher, acting badly as a IT guy. I have installed a network camera system at my ranch so I can monitor activities while I am away. I have exede 5, dynamic IP, 2 ea. O2storm high power router made by Radiolabs that I have set up as a brigde system to access internet approximately 1 mile away from satellite location. All of this works great. Radiolabs hasnt been able to help much. I had to create a web hop on the dynamic server to access the camera. My question is how can I access the router via internet for maintenance issues or to help troubleshoot camera?

I think your question is a little off topic here. I don't know if a forum like »Wireless Service Providers would be better suited to this question.

I think bridge mode means either router could not be contacted outside of your system, like at a work computer.

Needless to say, your camera would have a specific IP address, which can not be accessed outside of your system.

I'm not a network person, nor dealt with accessing home computer at work, etc.

You will need to know your public IP from WB and allow remote management of your router. Go to »ipchicken.com/
for the IP information.

Log in top your router and allow remote management and note the port #, ie 8080. Enter ip address and port like sample below:
184.22.22.1:8080

One problem with that suggestion is that WB/Exede does not issue a fixed IP...it's dynamic and may change anytime the modem reboots, or reacquires the satellite after any outage, like from weather related lost signal..

They only allow and issue a fixed IP to those who buy their commercial package.

From a previous post: »Re: [Exede] Exede Static IP

May 2012; NRTC News Letter

ViaSat is focusing early Exede sales on the consumer market and does not currently offer static IP with Exede subscriptions. Alana Pilkington, NRTC vice president, Internet Services, said that NRTC has been pushing for ViaSat to include a static IP feature, but in the meantime, there is a potential work-around. “What ViaSat is doing today instead of offering static IP addresses is putting a long-term persistent dynamic lease on the modem. The modem would have to be consistently offline for a significant amount of time before it would not get the same IP address back.”

It really doesn't matter whether the lease is short-term, or long-term, the question is "is it public?"

If it is, then it is certainly usable, but it would be crazy to use the IP directly since at some points it is almost certain to change. It is almost worse if it is a long-term lease, because you get used to it always working and the day it doesn't you will run in circles trying to figure out why not.

Since this is the normal situation in the bulk of the terrestrial ISP world, there are standard and easy solutions. Get a dynamic dns namespace, and have something on your network send regular updates.

My home camera system has that capability built-in, and my router also has it (I use the router, because it is easier to configure). I use a free domain host name from dyndns.com because I don't need their paid services. As long as the IP is updated at least once per 30 days it remains active.

In my case the default port for the camera is 1050, but could be set to anything, and whatever it is has to be forwarded through the router.
