I was thinking of using it as a tripod (to avoid baggage fees and to avoid buying a monopod) as well with a 701HDV Manfotto Video Head. The video head has a 3/8inch female thread the gecko is 1/4in male.
Although a 3/8 to 1/4 adapter sounds like it should work, I am convinced the torque while panning will loosen up the adapter. If there was a locknut involved, it would not loosen up.
What kind of adapter should I look for? |

Re: Mounting a 3/8 inch female fluid video head to 1/4 fat gecko I am pretty sure those will come loose as I pan the camera back and forth. I have been doing some research and I think I need something called a converter plate, but I cannot find one that accepts 1/4 male on one side and has a 3/8 male thread (stud) on the other.
Here is what I mean »www.amazon.com/Manfrotto-120-Con···er+plate
Unless I am mistaken, the devices you pointed out are to adapt a thread on a camera to a different kind on something fixed like a tripod with screw or a quick release plate.
In those cases there is no torque on the adapter until you are dismounting the camera or camcorder. |
