[TWC] Service our in Queens, NY?

Time Warner Cable:
My screen went "black" at 5 PM today (Mon. 10/29/2012) and no other channels are working.
Has anyone else living in Queens, NY experienced the same thing?

What do we do now?

(What with the problems with the recent upgrades, etc. and now this outage, I am getting very upset with TW service. It is almost impossible to get through to them every time I have to dial their service number.)

You do realize there is a hurricane currently going on?

I do, but was just asking a question to see if others here in this area had same problem so I wouldn't worry that there was something wrong with my TV or Box.
I am 80 years old and spend a lot of my time watching TV.

read a book. Cable should be the least of your worries. Hope you stay safe and don't lose power.

Your answer is quite uninformative! To "read a book?" If you don't have any information, please do not respond!

Is cable still down in Queens, NY? It is Tuesday morning and I still cannot get any channels, nor can I get through to TW on the telephone.
Does anyone have a sensible/informative answer?
Anyone else in Queens with similar probloem?

they have more important things to do than to restore cable. First they need to make sure everyone is safe. Then they need to remove trees. Then they have to restore power. ONLY THEN can they restore cable.
They can't restore cable with trees and power lines all over the place.
Satellite still works though so the only people getting tv are either lucky they didn't get extensive damage, have satellite or an antenna.

Hi Alice, found this statement from twc/hurricane sandy: "To Time Warner Cable customers affected by Hurricane Sandy
Time Warner Cable prepares well in advance when severe weather threatens our area. The safety of our employees and customers comes first. We have already deployed a variety of resources, such as: generators, fuel, fiber-optic cable and tools to strategic locations near the potential path of the storm, so we can respond when necessary. We have also sent recovery vehicles with food, water, supplies and tents for our technicians along the East Coast.

While we’re prepared to respond to the storm, there may be storm related power outages in your area and your TWC services may be affected. In severe weather situations, the first priority is to restore electric power. TWC crews may not be able to access a repair site because of downed electrical wires or other unsafe conditions. As a result, customers’ electricity is often restored before their cable services.
Cable, High Speed Internet and Phone
If you lose power, your TWC services will be affected until power is restored. Please contact your local power company to report a power outage. A list of local power companies is provided for your convenience."

Even though, thankfully, you have power and phone/internet connection, (with a different provider?), it's quite possible that an outage exists for your cable in an area not yet reachable for repair. Is this your only TV, with a box, I assume? And your tv has power separate from the box?

From watching the continual storm coverage, a huge fire was reported in Queens, covering several residences, and a man was killed by a tree. Mass flooding and millions without power, so assume your cable could be out for some time.

I heard it could take a week before all hurricane areas are repaired. First priority is finding any people who did not evacuate and check making sure they are safe. Some nodes/systems it is going to take quite a while to get them fully operational.

How badly was Queens, hit?

Satch

PS. Changed the above wording to "repaired" not "destroyed" sorry for any confusion.

I am in an apartment building in Jackson Heights (close to Manhattan). Not that bad. Outer regions of Queens I heard have been hit quite badly.
Service has been out now 24 hours. Guess we will never know when the service will be "up and running" again.
But I don't know how we will know when the service has been restored.

I'm not sure what number you are using, but 1-800-892-4357 (1-800-TWC-HELP) is posted on the TWCUntangled Blog regarding all customers in NY and NE area affected by Sandy.

To Time Warner Cable customers affected by Hurricane Sandy

As we work to restore service, the safety of our employees and customers is our primary concern. You can be confident that TWC is devoting every available resource to restoring service to affected customers — both residential and business.

We have teams of employees responding to every aspect of the situation:

• Technical staff making repairs in the field.

• Call center staff handling customer calls.

• Engineers to monitoring the recovery and performance of our network.

• Managers and supervisors are all on duty to make sure every available resource is
poised to restore service for any affected customers.

If you call TWC, our automated phone system will tell you if we are aware of service interruptions in your area. If you call and hear that message, no further action is necessary. If your service is out and you don’t hear a message, you can report it through the system or by speaking with a representative.

Residential customers can call:

(212) 358 0900 or (718) 358-0900

Business Class customers can call:

1-877-227-8711

When service is interrupted, especially as a result of severe weather, the first priority is to restore electric power. TWC crews may not be able to access a repair site because of downed electrical wires or other unsafe conditions. As a result, you will likely see electricity restored before your TWC services.

There are several reasons why your TWC services may still be affected, even if you have electric power at your home or business. In every case, you can be confident that TWC crews will restore your services as soon as possible:
1.TWC crews may not be able to access a repair site until power company crews have completed their work and declared the site safe.

2.Your service can be affected if electricity is lost to the TWC network near your home or business, even though power may be available at your home or business.

3.There may be damage to the TWC network serving your residence or business

We are already doing all we can to restore your services as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

If you turn your TV on and it works, then you will know service is restored.

When I look at some of the destruction in your part of the state and New Jersey, the last thing that I worry about is TV service. Up here in upstate, we lost cable TV and internet last night for a while. When I think about what some people are going through in the hard hit areas, I really didn't care too much about my loss of service.

Yes, that is the number I have been calling and continue to get the recorded message. Everyone in my building is reporting the same. As I said: Guess we will never know when the service will be "up and running" again. And I don't know how we will know when the service has been restored, other than to keep turning the Box/TV on.
(My orginal reason for posting this thread was (just) to make sure there was nothing wrong with my Box/TV. I thought other people in my area would post that they were having same problem.)

There's one side [the cynical one] that's kinda thinking the outage
could possibly be 4-5 years for a certain building

Missing Honey Boo Boo that badly? Seriously, go read a book, or go help with the storm damage. You just had one of the worst storms NY has seen, public transit will be down for a while, almost a hundred people died, 4.6 million people still don't have electricty, and you're worried about your cable service and getting "upset" that you "can't get through".

People make me sick sometimes.

I ilve in Queens and cable/internet connectivity has been sporadic. For the last two days it works for the most part during the day but as evening approaches, I lose it.

Can't you get it through your head that I was just asking a question? As I said, I am 80 years old, homebound, and TV is one of the things that I have grown to depend on. Once again, I was JUST asking a question. Why the sarcastic replies instead of a helpful response? Am I not allowed to ask a question?

Alice, with all due respect, it was the way that you phrased your original post that had a few of us replying the way we did. And now, a couple days later as I watch the coverage of this disaster, I feel the same. TV really is not important when there are so many who will not have a home to live in much less a TV to watch for quite some time. Jersey got his very hard as well as quite a few other areas.

You're tired of Time Warner Cable because the biggest disaster for NY for a long time has hit, and I can't watch my cable. Screw those other scrubs without homes or power. I WANT MY CABLE TV.
