integrated with on-line services
I myself, don't like that. I don't like cloud storage, granted I don't have a need for it.
My reasoning is this:
Media that is in my "hands" or on my PC, I control, for the most part.
Information I store at a remote location, on someone else's servers, is controlled my me and the second party.
Sure many cloud storage servers say they are secure, from attacks from the outside. But what is to prevent an employee from stealing my blueprint of a gas engine that gets 100 miles to a teaspoon of water?
True I could encrypt the files, and if I don't forget the key, that would be the way to go.
But then what if I have a power failure at home, or I'm cut off from the Internet for any length of time?
Then there is also the pesky caps that many carriers seem to have in place. Do I want to use my cap for watching Netflix/porn, or do I want to use my cap for transferring files?
The thing is, we are in a 1982 society. Our smart devices/phone track our location. They have for years.
Then we install apps that report our locations back to the developer. So they can "fine tune" the app.
Everything we do is tracked on a daily bases. That information is collected, complied and made into statistics. Then sold, and sold again.
You buy gas, the type of gas, how much, date, time, type of card or did you use cash, weather, price is all collected.
Tracking is harder to do if you don't carry any cell phones/smart devices, use a credit card, don't establish a pattern.
But I think Google Chrome is an example of the direction OSes will go.
The selling point is the fact that you logged into google chrome on one pc, then logged off. Then you log onto a different PC, and there is he desktop and all the work that you were doing on the other PC.
That's the plus and nice selling point.
The advantage to the software industry is that it will be easier to "spy" on the user and make sure they only have the software they purchased on their devices, as well as movies and music.--
Is a person a failure for doing nothing? Or is he a failure for trying, and not succeeding at what he is attempting to do? What did you fail at today?.
