| [CATV] Internet and Cable Outage - Lehigh Valley I have no cable at my apartment in Allentown off of Airport Road. Granted, I have no power at my complex, but when I plugged in my TV and cable Box via a generator I have no signal.
Am I missing powering something on, or is there a known outage in my area? |

Am I missing powering something on, or is there a known outage in my area? If your complex has no power most likely your area has no power which most likely means equipment used to power rcn's equipment have no power. If they have backup power on their network, it can only run so long. I wouldn't count on getting service back until commercial power is back at your complex. |

Thanks for the reply, I honestly never thought of that. I feel like a dummy lol. I guess it's playstation 3 and xbox 360 until I get power. |

 | reply to shadyman777 We were told that our local (Forks Twsp) RCN UPS ran out of energy about 14 hrs after the power went out, which was about 10am on Tuesday Oct 30. We have all three option from RCN, Phone, TV, Internet.
My issue is the phone line more than anything. Phone service is a lifeline, and not everyone has a cell phone, and cell phone service hasn't been exactly reliable this week either. I am told by a friend who is a Business Resilience specialist with connections at Homeland Security that land phone lines are considered critical communications in an emergency and the PUC requires RCN to have a plan on file to restore phone service as quickly as possible. However, RCN says that Federal Emergency Regulations prohibit them from doing any repairs until the power companies have completed their repairs.
People around me with Verizon phones all have service. I'm starting to think that they have a better emergency plan, and maybe I need to think about changing providers. 4 days is too long, and Met-Ed is saying 10-14 days to restore all service? Ridiculous!
Anyway, I can't confirm that anything I've been told is accurate, or not accurate, and the lack of information forthcoming is the most frustrating part of all. |

I can't imagine what Katrina was like. Yeah, It has me reviewing and re-writing my IT Disaster plan. Luckily I just moved all production to a data center in Colorado 6 months ago so I wasn't affected by Sandy in office. Only our VPN server and file server were affected but our business was able to power forward with our clients who weren't affected. Through all of that, our business RCN line worked when we restored power, can't say the same for FiOS They were down until they came out yesterday to fix. |

Also, our cellular service with AT&T was very sporadic for several days. |
