Water usage and bill..

There was a thread about dual flush toilets and reading that thread got me curious.

How much water do people really use a month and for how much?

We are on a shared well and in the desert so I would "assume" we use less than most. When I look it up on the 'net it appears the average usage for a family of 4 is > 10k gallons per month (in Az).

Our family of 2 uses just under 3000 gallons per month and its $35 (no upper limit, yet).. $25 of that is even the raw montly charge with no water used.. I guess you would call that the service fee.

Some other people in the same valley (different well co-op) pay $25/month for 3000 gallons. I don't know what they pay for overage but I've been told its high enough that most families do what they can to stay under 3000 gallons.

I guess I should state that we don't have grass and we only water about 10 plants total once a week during summer when they start to look like they are having issues.

You already found your stats, it seems: 10k per month in a 4 person household.

I find stats saying 2500 to 3000 per month per person.
It would coincide with your numbers (4x 2500 = 10,000).

As for how much, well, it depends doesn't it? You just said that different co-ops charge differently.

As for me, where I live, I don't know how much it costs. There isn't a meter, so we pay a tax based on the municipal value of our house.

I'll have to grab my latest bill to see what are consumption is, but I think it was around 2000 cubic feet (~15k gallons) for a family of 5. Our water rate is 1.49/100 cubic feet (~750 gallons) up to 2500 cubic feet (~18,750 gallons). After that it goes down to $1.33 for the next 9500 cubic feet, and $1.24 for anything over 12,000 cubic feet.

I think the usage might be off... This is the usage per the cities website, but the amounts listed is an unholy amt of water. They list a cost of, but who knows. I'll need to wait and check the bill.

Water -- $2.63 per Unit
Sewer -- $3.38 per Unit

Our water is $3.80 per (unit) 748 gallons for the first (20 units) 14,960 gallons then $5.55 per (unit) 748 gallons after that. No service fees at all. We use about ~4,500 gallons a month so like $23 a month for our family.

One unit = 100 cubic feet = 748 gallons

$12.57 for 5010 gallons on my last bill (municipal water supply). However, there's an additional charge of $18.62 for the sewer charge (based on the gallons of water used), so a total of $31.19 for the combined bill.

$5.27 service charge, then $2.87 per 1,000 gallons on the first 4k. $2.57 per 1,000 gallons after that until 25k gallons.

Our household usually stays under $15 a month.

Where I live the water is not that bad $15-$20 a month. The sewage is where the city gets us. $60-$75 a month.

It's either missing a decimal point before the last 2 digits, or it's not measuring hundred cubic feet (ccf) and is measuring just cubic feet.

Single person for 2 months

W 3850 G? / cu.ft.? ..12.20 (used to never go above $4.10, I'm sure there was a rate hike at some point)
user fee.................... 14.00
trash ........................18.82

Do note though that I had just installed a custom shower and wanted to see usage based on using multiple heads for a longer shower time.
Also there was one day of grouting that I was hauling 2-5 gallon buckets all day long.
I'm below sewers so no sewer fees. Here it's like 2/2.5 X water
