Re: [CATV] Internet and Cable Outage - Lehigh Valley
We were told that our local (Forks Twsp) RCN UPS ran out of energy about 14 hrs after the power went out, which was about 10am on Tuesday Oct 30. We have all three option from RCN, Phone, TV, Internet.
My issue is the phone line more than anything. Phone service is a lifeline, and not everyone has a cell phone, and cell phone service hasn't been exactly reliable this week either. I am told by a friend who is a Business Resilience specialist with connections at Homeland Security that land phone lines are considered critical communications in an emergency and the PUC requires RCN to have a plan on file to restore phone service as quickly as possible. However, RCN says that Federal Emergency Regulations prohibit them from doing any repairs until the power companies have completed their repairs.
People around me with Verizon phones all have service. I'm starting to think that they have a better emergency plan, and maybe I need to think about changing providers. 4 days is too long, and Met-Ed is saying 10-14 days to restore all service? Ridiculous!
Anyway, I can't confirm that anything I've been told is accurate, or not accurate, and the lack of information forthcoming is the most frustrating part of all.
