pflogBueller? Bueller?Premium,MVM join:2001-09-01 El Dorado Hills, CA kudos:3 1 edit | [Business] [POLL] Do you have the new 15/3 or 27/7 business spee It seems there are quite a few people noticing the new business class speed tiers:
- 12/2 => 15/3 - 22/5 => 27/7
Can you all post:
- location - what modem do you have - original speed plan - new speed plan - shaperprobe results - do you see power boost? if so, is it more or less than before? - do your speeds remain consistent after powerboost? or are they erratic as in the link
I'm curious to see if it's rolled out to all areas or if it's specific test markets at this time. Also curious if I (and I think espaeth ) are the only ones on 27/7 seeing erratic speeds after powerboost and if ropeguru is the only one without powerboost now after the upgrade to 27/7.
Thanks everyone! -- "Women. Can't live with 'em, pass the beer nuts." -Norm |

Interesting, good to know it's working in some places. Interesting, too, that you have upstream power boost and the same fast downstream power boost. hmm. When did you last reboot your router?

pflogBueller? Bueller?Premium,MVM join:2001-09-01 El Dorado Hills, CA kudos:3 | I'm REALLY starting to think the SMC D3G is at least part of the problem.
I don't know enough about HFC networks, but is it possible the SMC D3G config file is just hosed and other modems' are not? I don't know why it would take this long to figure out if that's the case... -- "Women. Can't live with 'em, pass the beer nuts." -Norm |

 | Yes I signed up with my own modem as I have heard nothing but nightmares about the SMC devices and do not need static IP addresses. |

Gotcha. Well, from this thread and the other older one that was California specific (or started that way), so far it seems like:
- 15/3 on non-SMC modems: OK - 15/3 on SMC modems: OK - 27/7 on non-SMC modems: OK - 27/7 on SMC: problems
I'm hoping more folks chime in here and the above pattern solidifies itself. -- "Women. Can't live with 'em, pass the beer nuts." -Norm |

FWIW, I have not experienced the sawtooth downstream speed symptom. When the remote host is capable, I see a fairly steady 15-16 mbps traffic stream after the initial PowerBoost burst. -- We can never have enough of nature. pflogBueller? Bueller?Premium,MVM join:2001-09-01 El Dorado Hills, CA kudos:3 | Out of curiosity, how are you determining the speeds are consistent after PB?
In my case, they DO average out to 27 Mbps, so the overall average speed isn't the problem. But if you look at the traffic second by second (or in even smaller time intervals), it looks like a sawtooth pattern as I posted in the other thread. -- "Women. I'm not going to concern myself with a microanalysis of the speed consistency. Note that there was some PB in this transfer, though it doesn't ever show up in shaperprobe and most of my downloads don't let me go fast enough to notice it. The download holds around 3.4 MBps. |

pflogBueller? Bueller?Premium,MVM join:2001-09-01 El Dorado Hills, CA kudos:3 | Fair enough, you may not care, but it IS broken for me and I do care, and it should be fixed.
I was just trying to see if your profile is actually working and was hoping you could help out to see if your speeds are consistent or not. But I understand that if you don't care and it offers you no benefit why you don't want to, no worries.
FWIW, the windows task manager aggregates the speeds I think, so it wouldn't show up there. Something like netmeter/dumeter or wireshark and the IO graph would, but I don't think the task manager graph will.
I still haven't seen a 27/7 profile that doesn't have the /\/\/\/\ pattern after PB. -- "Women. Can't live with 'em, pass the beer nuts." -Norm |

ropeguruPremium join:2001-01-25 Mechanicsville, VA | I am doing a 4GB download from Georgia tech right now. I have NetMeter running and watching the download speed it is all over the place. Not even a V pattern like you are seeing.
It bounces randomly something like 28,24,16,33,35,16,18,28,etc.. Even dying a times for second or two. Even the download spped showing on Firefox's downloads window is all over the place.
See attached graph for how bad it is... Cannot even tell if powerboost is even there or not. |
|
pflogBueller? Bueller?Premium,MVM join:2001-09-01 El Dorado Hills, CA kudos:3 | Yes, that's what I'm seeing as well. The sawtooth pattern is sort of there when you look at it over a higher time interval or the speeds are averaged/smoothed.
So yeah, sounds like you and I are seeing the same behavior after the PB ends. -- "Women. Can't live with 'em, pass the beer nuts." -Norm |
