[OOL] Credit Request Online Form

Since I know many here do not have the Optimum Network as your home page, you might not realize that you can submit your credit request for any outage you experienced due to Hurricane Sandy online. There's no need to call them. Just go to the home page, select the "submit a credit request" chevron then click where it says "click here." Fill in the start and end dates of your outage and submit the request. It couldn't be easier.

I called and got my $29 credit applied immediately. If you submit the form, it may take up to two billing cycles (according to the recording on the phone).

EDIT: And it *could* be easier. CV should be able to apply the credit automatically for any house with a cable box or modem. But they don't.

Actually, when I submitted it, it said it should be applied on my next bill. Regardless, I'm patient.

I'm not bothering. I had no power for five days but was able to get service up while on my generator. Now I am out again but generator power runs the router and modem. Between cellphone data and the times I run my generator it still works so they really do not owe me anything.

Thanks for the link. Much easier than sitting on hold and tying up their phone lines.

I was pretty impressed overall with Cablevision's response to this storm. I realize it doesn't mean much to those still suffering, but it seems like they learned a few things from Irene and the snow/ice storm of 2011.

I'm thinking the reason behind not giving a credit across the board is because of people in n2jtx situation below. Power maybe out, but if they have a generator their services may work.

I'm sure there are many ppl who won't bother to call or fill out a form for credit, which will save cablevision some money as well.

CV should be able to tell when STBs and modems (phones) were offline.

They can at least at a specific moment but it is likely they do not keep a database of when every one of the 3 Million modems and maybe 4-6 Million Set tops is on/off line and whether it is simply because someone disconnected their modem.

I'm sure they can. But it doesn't tell them why its offline.

They certainly have logs of the DHCP requests/renewals and might have logs on each CMTS of activity for debugging but I suspect that they do not have a centralized database of which device was online and offline at a specific time. I guess it is possible they do have logs of every device but I'm not sure what the purpose of it would be on a normal basis. If they do then it would be simple to give rebates to anyone who was offline but without a centralized log of when devices were online and for how long etc it would be a large amount of work even if there are logs on the CMTS.

my point is, that maybe the modem is offline because someone decided to unplug it vs an outage or no power

My power returned @ 10:00 AM on 11/3 and my Optimum services did not return until 25 hours later @ 11:00 AM on 11/4 so I submitted the credit request.

I wonder why the Negative Cat feels the need to piss on a good thing - ignore list time.

It's only "up to" 2 because if you request the credit (or, if it is applied) just before the billing cycle ends when the bill is generated, it will not show until the one after that. Same thing goes with requesting it over the phone, just that you know it is entered at the time of call (not a guarantee with the online form).

I was simply taking issue with the OP's statement that "It couldn't be easier." No need to read any deeper meaning into my comments.

OK, that makes sense. Since my payment was due on Nov 6, I'm glad I called and got the credit right away.

Thanks for posting the info about the online form. Much appreciated, and I'll pass on the info to friends and family who don't usually go to any of the Optimum websites.

My credit is already showing on my account (as a negative balance for the next billing cycle)... Kudo's to Optimum for posting quickly without a call... (Of course I wish I wouldn't have lost OOL since I never lost power - but I understand that my amps where at the mercy of ConEd and it was a lengthy process to restore...)

Just got my bill today and I had a $57 credit on it due to the hurricane. I not only didn't expect it to be that much (9 days without power) but I am very pleasantly surprised that I got the credit on this month's bill.
