Get Goodreader, it has a ton of features, reads many file types, can sync, and is updated regularly.

be aware that some pdf's require adobe acrobat reader, because of DRM. |

Not too worried about vulnerabilities on IOS right now. I have both Acrobat & iBooks installed on the iPad & iPhone.

I assume this situation isn't too common, since I have been using a Mac since April, 2007 and have never encountered a pdf that Preview couldn't handle. |

Some types of PDF forms that you can fill out on the computer also require Adobe, like job applications or government forms. |
