Federal law. That's why. You'll notice there was no mail delivery today, either. Several provinces, but not all, also have Rememberance Day as a stat as well.

Federally regulated means federal employment standards legislation. It was a stat holiday over at Bell and Rogers, too.

How does that work... what jobs fall under this? Seems somewhat unfair...

Re: Remembrance Day...........Work implications

Banks are virtually all closed on Sundays anyhow, so I'm not sure what the issue is here...

If you are employed by one of the following businesses and industries, you are more than likely working in a federally regulated sector:

banks
marine shipping, ferry and port services
air transportation, including airports, aerodromes and airlines
railway and road transportation that involves crossing provincial or international borders
canals, pipelines, tunnels and bridges (crossing provincial borders)
telephone, telegraph and cable systems
radio and television broadcasting
grain elevators, feed and seed mills
uranium mining and processing
businesses dealing with the protection of fisheries as a natural resource
many First Nation activities
most federal Crown corporations
private businesses necessary to the operation of a federal act

Depends what part of the company... Some parts of Bell/Rogers/TELUS/MTS were off today. Some worked...

There honestly is no rhyme or reason anymore as to who's off when...

There was no traffic today in Ottawa because civil servants had the day off. I think I was the only person working in the city.

Then about the same amount of work got accomplished as any day they were at work.
