Bright House HD Channel Anticipation Thread (Q1-2013)

Bright House Customers,

Many of you know me as an HD nut that posts on various Bright House and TV forums.

One forum that I only read gave me an interesting idea.

Why not have a quarterly HD Channel Anticipation Thread?

If you compare Bright House's HD Channel Lineup to others you will realize that we are fortunate to have in my opinion the best HD Channel Lineup in the Country unless your in The Panhandle of Florida where BHN is working to get them up to speed.

However, even after we got NFL Network/RedZone in September and the Soccer fans got beIN Sport a few weeks ago, there are still channels that many of us would like to see in High Definition and others that have not even launched yet.

In the local papers, Bright House buys monthly legal notices at the end of each month to announce changes to that particular division.

The notices include Channel Change moves, re-naming of channels, channels that are on month to month agreements and of course, new HD Channels.

My goal (If The Moderators will allow it) to make this thread the place to make this the place to discuss Bright House HD Channel additions. Bright House has been adding things to systems the last few years around the same time so we will not need all of the notices from the different papers. I already get The Orlando notice, have someone who can pull The Indianapolis notice from IndyStar.com and know people in Bakersfield, CA and Livonia, MI who get me those notices. We could really use someone in Tampa Bay, FL, Birmingham, AL and The Florida Panhandle to get notices.

I plan to have a list of HD channels that at least one system (for ex: Bakersfield is the only BHN carrier with RFD-TV HD and Nuvo TV HD but do not have WGN America or HSN at all like the rest of us). In addition, I plan to have a list of channels on month to month agreements that we could lose but hardly ever do each month.

Given how Bright House usually announces HD channels over a month in advance (The National versions of the Time Warner Cable Laker Channels launch Dec 11), I figured we would start with a thread for the first quarter of next year.

I'm going to transfer my lists from another forum I post on in the next post and make some changes to make a list that suits all divisions and users on this forum.

My only question is if the Moderators will allow this?

Here is to hopefully a great quarterly thread filled with tons of Bright House information

Thanks Gary!

I do think this is going to be a big thread on this forum and will have the second post all ready by the end of the Holiday weekend.

While I'm setting up the lists in the second post, what are everyone's HD wish lists?

Mine

1) More Encore/Plex HD- TWC/BHN needs to work out a new carriage deal for this to happen. The reason we do not have these and Starz is the fact these channels are on month to month carriage deals. For BHN Customers in Orlando, Tampa Bay and Bakersfield, this is why it took so long for us to get Weather Channel HD. Hopefully, a new deal will get done soon.

2) Sundance HD- TWC has it on it's carriage deals so this can be an easy pickup for Bright House. I think they are just waiting to see it as a headline for a quarterly when they have nothing to really add.

3) EPIX HD Channels- Seems like a long shot based on what TWC has had to say in the past but would like to see these on Movie Pass.

What about everyone else?

Were a week away from when the Michigan notice comes out. Orlando, Bakersfield and Indianapolis likely come out on Friday the 30th.

Based on Time Warner cable notices (BHN gets their channels off of their deals) that BBC World News HD could be in the cards for December but more likely the first quarter of 2013.

It's also looking like E!, Style, Lifetime, LMN, Lifetime Real Women, IFC and WE TV are joining the month to month carriage deals.

I plan to post all notices that I can get.

Hey HD

Can you also do a post showing how many TV Channel's are Currently Available on the BHTV App ? Then compare that to your master channel list and show that count, so we can see how much longer it will be till all TV CH are on the BHTV App.

Nayan: I match you on 2 of the 3.

Bigdaddy: I might just do that. Maybe even do a separate thread. Which HD channels do you still want?

Everyone: I'm still working on the Post 2 list but it will be done by weekend's end.

These were found by my buddy Kevin in the TWC KC Legal Notice.

As everyone knows, Bright House gets their channels from Time Warner Cable's agreements so these could be in play for us in the notices next week.

Fight Now HD
One World Sports HD
Outside Television HD
Universal Sports Net HD

I have never heard of the first three and did not even know about them as available HD Channels. TWC KC is only getting BBC World News in SD but that will definitely be in play for us at the very least.

I'm almost done with the list in the second post and will add these to it.

The notice from Michigan will be posted late afternoon/early evening tomorrow.

If they are getting additions, other systems will likely get those same channels.

I have The Michigan notice and given how all the main Bright House divisions (Panhandle gets the shaft) get most of the same things at the same time, all of us are likely getting...........

BBC World News SD/HD by the end of December.

The following channels are now also on month to month agreements as expected.

E!, Hallmark, Hallmark Movie Channel, IFC, Lifetime, Lifetime Movie Network, Lifetime Real Women, Smithsonian Channel, WE

Here is The Michigan Notice from my pal yimitz

Today's notice:

Month to month: BBC America, Channel One Russia, Cooking Channel, Current TV, DIY, E!, all the Encore networks, Food Network, GSN, GolTV, Hallmark, Hallmark Movie Channel, IFC, IndiePlex, Lifetime, Lifetime Movie Network, Lifetime Real Women, MC, NHL Center Ice, NHL Network, Ovation, Retroplex, Smithsonian, all the Starz networks, Style, This TV, TV Japan, WE and Youtoo TV.

Effective by December 31, the following channels will launch on the SDV system:
:
BBC World News (ch 146)
BBC World News HD (ch 339)

As of November 2, the following launched on the SDV system:

beIN Sport (Sports Pass ch 578)
beIN Sport HD (Sports Pass ch 678)

That's it for this month.

Any clue when we get Starz on Demand in HD?

HDOrlando

RUQRU,

We will likely get that, more HD Starz channels, more HD Encore, Encore On Demand with some HD on Movie Pass HD OD and the areas that do not have Indieplex and RetroPlex will get them.......

Once they come to a new deal for the Starz channels. They are currently on month to month deals preventing the additions of all of the above.

The reason why Orlando, Tampa Bay and Bakersfield did not get The Weather Channel HD until within the past year was the fact it was on month to month deals for three years.

This is also why many of us got HD channels like Ovation and EWTN before Lifetime HD.

For years, NFL Network was the big thing we did not have.

Next year, a new Starz/Encore deal is going to be the big thing we watch for as it's the biggest hole in TWC/BHN's amazing HD Lineup.

Sundance HD is a minor hole that BHN can add right now via the TWC deals and one to watch for.

Others are long shots like the return of AXS.TV/HDNet Movies and The Epix HD Channels.

RUQRU,

I do not know what is holding it up but they have been on month to month agreements with the Starz Channels for about 2-3 years (Many channels are as The Weather Channel was for 3 years) so I seriously doubt we lose those channels.

Because it's been on the deals for a few years, you would expect a conclusion soon. When it is done, BHN's biggest hole will be filled with the addition of all of that HD content.

There is probably little demand for it, but i'd like to see the Funimation-HD channel, even if it's only in the form of "On Demand" like with the Anime Network.

Not a lot of carriers have that.

It could be a possibility down the line so you never know.

Speaking of channels, there is a rumor that Military Channel HD has launched in HD.

If it did, I expect TWC/BHN to pick this up pretty quickly as there are very few channels that BHN has in SD that are offered in HD that they have not picked up.

So does this lead to the end of the analog channels coming in 2013?

So support to those who connect their TV's directly to the BHN cable will only receive the local channels?

RUQRU: HDNet is now AXS.TV and apparently they are dumping a lot of their popular programming for concerts and censoring shows like Art Mann.

HDNet Movies is still intact and given how AXS.TV's top goal is getting all of the cable carriers they lost over the past few years back into the hold I could see a deal eventually happening to accomplish this.

The real issue has been AXS.TV (then HDNet) being on Digital Basic instead of the HD Pak. If they lower their price more, something could happen and they might cave a little more since they have not gained any carriers back since the rebranding in June.
