 | Port forwarding secure? Is there a problem with a forwarded port failing Steve Gibson's Shields Up test? |
|
 | Since the whole idea of port forwarding is to punch a hole through the firewall , I would expect it to " fail " the shields up test. What is your reason for wanting a port open ? |
|
 | Thanks for asking. Cameras viewable on a website. |

 | reply to dtgoodtonid "Cameras viewable on a website" OK that can be taken 2 ways . I am going to assume you are taking about a normal home IP camera where the "Website" is generated by the camera on demand . As Dave noted , in that case the security is dependent on the camera's software and firmware , as well as the software in the router . If you are talking about an external website that you are continually streaming data to , you should not have to forward any ports . |

 | Thanks. I'm talking about security cameras that connect to a dvr and the dvr is connected to the internet. |

If it's one of those web-accessible DVRs where everyone knows the password that you have not bothered to change ... |

 | Thanks, I appreciate the responses. Yes, I did change the default password! I have been visiting this forum waaay too long to let that one get by! |
