My 13 years old Remington is finally falling apart so I'm looking for a replacement. Most important thing - it must be able to deal with thick, dense, relatively long hairs - basically a facial wire brush. The vibrating/foil one I have was doing a very good job, but I'm open to any suggestion - just not razor blades.
I've been happy with my Panasonic ES-LA93K. It's got the cleaning stand and works really well. There is another model - forget the name - that is the same unit without the cleaning base if you don't want that. I know they sell that one at Target for $149 or so.
Replaced a 7 year old Braun that started ripping my face up after they "improved" the foils.
My facial hair is a total nightmare as well. The Braun shavers are a lot like the old Remington's. The automatic clean and charge dock is fantastic. -- AT&T U-Hearse - RIP Unlimited Internet 1995-2011 Rethink Billable.

I have only ever shaved electric and my only brand has been Braun. I'm fully satisfied with the Braun shavers and never felt any desire to experiment with anything else. My current shaver is a 7000 series Braun with the Clean and Renew system which is very convenient (but not something you would carry with you when traveling).
I still keep my old 6000 series Braun (after more then 10 years of use it needed a new rechargeable battery pack and I bought the the current shaver while waiting for the repair). I use the 6000 series shaver while traveling (I especially like the integrated charger capable of using any power from 12V DC to 240V AC). -- Got some spare cpu cycles ? I'll second the Braun recommendation - I have had two Norelcos. Good shaves but they would always irritate my neck. None of that with the Braun, and it drops into a cleaning / charging station which keeps it working smoothly! I'm sold on them!
I've tried a few electric razors over the years, and I've never liked them.. they've always done a poor job comparatively and my face is always irritated after using one. Right now, I'm using the Gillette Fusion, and it's probably the best safety razor on the market... smooth shave with no razor burn or nicks.
But if you know what you are doing and have the time... there's nothing like a straight razor shave.
"Hair is too thick and hard for blades, makes shaving painful. Every time I had to use blades I ended up with cuts and ingrown hairs..."
Shave more often and quit going against the "grain" (the opposite direction the hair is growing). Thats what is causing the ingrown hairs. The last part of that post, I'm not going there. Manscape away. :P
I've tried several electric shavers, NONE ever did as good of a job as a multi-bladed razor did (Gillette Fusion is my current one and has been for several years)
Grow a beard . Being part Yeti myself, finding a good razor seems like an impossible task. My wife calls my hair "stalks". Razor blades just make a mess and cause ingrown hairs. The best electric razor I've met is an older corded Remington Flex-foil type. 2nd best is Norelco Sensa Touch. -- If someone refers to herself / himself as a "guru", they probably aren't.
Another vote for Philishave/Norelco. I've been using their rotary shavers for the past 30 years (I'm on my third one now) and I have to say that they simply work and work well. I wouldn't shave with any other electric.
Based on some of recommendations here plus other reviews I picked a Braun Series 7. Awesome shave in less than half the time with the old Remington, feels much smoother... My wife will be happy Thanks guys!
