1 edit | Modem that resynchs fast So I am not sure if my zoom5341 is failing, it's modem log seems to be filled with errors.
Neighbors internet seems fine.
Having about 10 t3 timeouts and 3 t4 timeouts per day.
My zoom5341 also overheats.
As in, I had to solder a fan to it otherwise my Intenret would go from downloading at 105 mb/s to 2 mb/s.
One time the modem just had all its lights on and it was stuck.
Also, when it has t4 timeouts it takes like 2 minutes to resync, which is normal, it did that when I got it too, and my other zoom5341 does that.
Anyone know any modems that resyncs fast? My old sb5101 resyncs in like 10 seconds.
Anyone know how the dpc3010 fares? The sb6141 is way too expensive for me.
Here are my signals |

Not sure if anyone has timed a bunch of D3 modems side by side to see if one is quicker than the other, but I imagine the difference from D3 modem to D3 modem is much less than the difference between a D2 modem and any D3 modem. -- "Women. Can't live with 'em, pass the beer nuts." -Norm |

|
 | I have an xbox 360 and a lamp, and a monitor plugged into the same power strip, and they seem good. |

 | reply to JigglyWiggly First 5341 I owned heated up big time. Would shut itself off. I'd remove and reinsert the power plug to get it back online. Called Zoom tech before the first year was up and they replaced it. No problems since, goes days without an entry in the error log. Barely warm to the touch. |

| reply to JigglyWiggly The 5341 (G) I have noticed that they get hot and lose connection. This is a common problem. The 5341J doesn't seem to have the same problem. The Motorola Docsis 3 modems seem to have the fastest sync time as far as I've seen.

 | Aite thanks guys.
But before any type of RMA, I realized I had a few ramsinks.
I put these on, the one circled is literally burning hot, but it's not as hot as it was before I'm guessing since my modem hasn't had a t4 timeout or t3 timeout in 2 days now.
The center chip is pretty hot too, but it's not burning hot.

Here's a pic with a 60mm fan I was using it before, the modem closes up fine with it, but I've taken it off since it does make some extra noise. I put like 50 ohms of resistence, but I can't get it any quieter or the fan won't startup. Also I don't think it helped cooling that much.
Still, it hasn't crashed yet with just the ramsinks. |

 | That's awesome lol... But yeah, the ramsinks should pull enough heat off of the chips to keep them from failing. |

A pulsewidth modulation circuit would be a better way to control the fan a really low speeds. even a really slow breeze greatly improves the heatsinks effcientcy. |

 | Thx. I hate being blind, edited the picture.
I could put a variable fan controller on it, that would get around the fan starting up issue.
It's working atm, so I probably don't have to worry about that. |
