Re: Verizon DSL slow in old townhouse 4 floors, need Repeater?

Thanks. We think it might just be the Verizon modem/router they sent us (it's upstairs so I don't know model number).

Fact: We had an Apple Airport router that was RELIABLE with Earthlink, but speeds were too slow. We are now using the Verizon supplied router which is unreliable.

We used to use Earthlink but their speed was limited. So we upgraded to Verizon about 1 month ago and it's unreliable and we are always getting spinning wheels and intermittent disconnects.

Yes, we have multi-users online at prime-time, this is a concern.

A: We are thinking of just switching to a very fast Comcast Xfinitity and be done with this (we can't get FiOS unfortunately)

B: We still want to try to relocate the router somewhere better inside the house. We also want to reconnect the AIRPORT EXTREME and ditch the Verizon router to see if that helps.

Thanks, any more suggestions are greatly appreciated!

The modem/router combos provided by verizon are generally quite weak and poor in performance. It doesn't get any better with fios either if you use their provided equipment for wifi access. What people generally do is turn their modems into bridges and use their preferred wifi router to hook up their households.
