Lost channels without box in CNY

I have several TV's in my home but only one with a hd box. Why has Time Warner cut channels to my other TV's without a box. I lost True TV, Country music channel etc...will these come back or is this a ploy to eventually need to rent a box for each TV?

They are recapturing analog channels to free up bandwidth for additional broadband speed, HD channels, and other services. You can get free (for 1-2 years) mini-converter boxes for your analog TV that not only bring back those channels, but also let you watch most of the digital channel lineup you used to have a full set top box to watch. After 2014 or so, they are $0.99 a month each to rent. Get one for every TV at your TWC cable store. It's the easiest and fastest way. They are so small, you can velcro them to the side or back of the TV.

Only downside: they don't receive the dozen or so channels in my area that are on Switched Digital Video. These are lesser-watched digital channels that are switched on only when someone in your neighborhood actually watched them. Since these are one-way only boxes, there is no way to tell TWC you want to watch them, so it shows up as "unavailable with your package."

Hopefully SDV will be scrapped as more bandwidth is freed up.

SDV is not going anywhere! They are freeing up space for DOCSIS channels right now and eventually only the basic expanded basic HD channels will come off of SDV and the rest will stay.

OK, thanks now I understand. There was no prior information given to me that this conversion was about to happen. When my home was constructed cable outlets were provided in every room therefore I have a television in five additional areas that plug directly into the wall outlet. I will go to my local Time Warner office and request five of these devices. I understand that these devices are free thru 2014 but will an additional charge be put in place for each additional TV?

Yes, the box is free until 2014 when there will be a $.99 a month charge on each one you have. I have a box for my son's TV in his room and I am pretty impressed with the fact that there is more than just local channels available in HD. We are getting Fox News, TNT and ESPN in HD on that set as well as all of the other digital and analog channels.

I have the same problem just in Austin, TX. No Weather Channel, Country Music Television (CMT), etc.

My free digital adapter arrived today, and it is now activated. I get the channels like before plus HD versions of the local channels. The thing is, there is still no Weather Channel, Country Music Television (CMT), etc. I looked at the channel lineup and these missing channels all say "(Digital Set-Top Required)." Does this mean the DA will not get me these channels? Is this how I can tell they are on SDV? Thanks

wait until the 18th to get all of the channels. As TWC has not made all of the changes necessary to receive all channels yet! Some of the channels in austin may still be SDV. the online website that has ordering information says don't hook the DTA up until the specified date or you won't get all of the channels.

Here in the Dallas area we are supposed to have the changes on 1-22-13 so we have over a month until the cuts.

Here are two updates:

1) I learned that the "(Set top box required)" comment is not necessarily the problem. For example, on analog I do not get ABC Family or CMT, which makes sense since they already require the set top box. With the digital adapter, I get ABC Family but still no CMT.
In addition, on analog I get The Weather Channel since it does not require the set top box. But there is no Weather Channel with the digital adapter.

2) A TWC tech arrived at my house even though there was no appointment. He said their system was incorrectly making appointments when people changed their accounts (such as ordering a digital adapter). Since he was there, he took a look at the digital adapter but couldn't figure it out as this was his first digital adapter issue. The best he came up with was wait until after Dec 18.

well the website specifically says wait until the cut date to active the adapter or you might not get all of the channels.

I see that now. I don't think the sheet of paper mailed to my house said that. Neither the tech on the phone to activate the device nor the one at the house mentioned it (other than as an idea while leaving).

Is there a way to figure out which channels are already digital only and which are switching on Dec 19th for my location?

these are moving to digital on the 18th:
Ion
CNBC
CSPAN
WGN America
Weather Channel
Golf Channel
LMN

the channels that say digital settop box required below 100 need a box.

by 'box' do you mean stb, digital adapter, or just at least one of them?

Interestingly enough: When the cable is plugged from wall to TV, the channels changes are in effect (ie, can't see Weather Channel anymore, and VH1 is on a different number - ch50).

With the DA plugged in, I have the same problem as described above (ie no CMT). BUT, the channels numbers are back to their old locations (ie VH1 still at ch71).

All but LMN is coming through now with the DA attached. The channels that say digital settop box required do NOT required a STB as I am getting them. The DA displays the channel name on the TV but a few of those aren't coming through. That's not a big deal and neither is LMN.
