Re: Lost channels without box in CNY
said by northutica:They are recapturing analog channels to free up bandwidth for additional broadband speed, HD channels, and other services. You can get free (for 1-2 years) mini-converter boxes for your analog TV that not only bring back those channels, but also let you watch most of the digital channel lineup you used to have a full set top box to watch. After 2014 or so, they are $0.99 a month each to rent. Get one for every TV at your TWC cable store. It's the easiest and fastest way. They are so small, you can velcro them to the side or back of the TV.
I have several TV's in my home but only one with a hd box. Why has Time Warner cut channels to my other TV's without a box. I lost True TV, Country music channel etc...will these come back or is this a ploy to eventually need to rent a box for each TV?
Only downside: they don't receive the dozen or so channels in my area that are on Switched Digital Video. These are lesser-watched digital channels that are switched on only when someone in your neighborhood actually watched them. Since these are one-way only boxes, there is no way to tell TWC you want to watch them, so it shows up as "unavailable with your package."
Hopefully SDV will be scrapped as more bandwidth is freed up.

SDV is not going anywhere! They are freeing up space for DOCSIS channels right now and eventually only the basic expanded basic HD channels will come off of SDV and the rest will stay.

OK, thanks now I understand. There was no prior information given to me that this conversion was about to happen. When my home was constructed cable outlets were provided in every room therefore I have a television in five additional areas that plug directly into the wall outlet. I will go to my local Time Warner office and request five of these devices. I understand that these devices are free thru 2014 but will an additional charge be put in place for each additional TV?

Yes, the box is free until 2014 when there will be a $.99 a month charge on each one you have. I have a box for my son's TV in his room and I am pretty impressed with the fact that there is more than just local channels available in HD. We are getting Fox News, TNT and ESPN in HD on that set as well as all of the other digital and analog channels.
