Question on Wireless Security-with a Netgear 7550N GatewayHi All
All of our devices are not N speed yet, working on getting the wireless machines on N speed as quickly as I can, always it says in Wireless Settings Area WPA2-PSK (AES) requires the router to operate at Wireless N Speeds?
Right now we're running G on all the clients...What is best to do on this situation? keep it as is, WPA-PSK(TKIP), with 9 character security key, and just wait til I upgrade all devices to N speed |

WPA2 AES does not require N at all. I run my lappie on it, and it only has G.
However, you can run the router on N, and it will fall back to G for devices. |

Oh ok, Router information stated WPA2 AES had to run at N Speeds while on WPA2 AES
But if not, then great, I can increase the security, and be all set
Here is what it says on wireless setup for the Netgear 7550N Gateway from At&t
With Security Enabled, 802.11n requires WPA2-AES to operate at 11n rates
If that is just nothing to worry on, then i'll work on securing network better tomorrow first thing in the morning |

Set the router for N speeds, and as stated, it will fall back to G as necessary. |

Oh ok, Thank you, appreciate the replies, and will set that up tomorrow, and have a nice secure Wireless setup.. |

Problem--Devices won't connect when set to N, Tried Wireless Mixed mode, with WPA2-PSK (AES) well that not working so well either with Familys Nook Tablet. So should I downgrade the Security to WPA-PSK(TKIP), and 11G only? |

The problem sounds like the Nook, if all other devices connect to the router. |

Nevermind Got it, Think was trying to connect to our old routers SSID still, took that out, reentered this security key, and finally connected |

Excellent. Different SSID's don't work well. |

Yes learned that....should be totally fine now... |

One last thing... use a 16 character PW minimum. AES ain't worth anything with an easy, short one. |
|

Yes I do use a 16 character password--I don't use easy ones, even if there a pain to type into Cell phones and Tablets, but one time typing in those items shouldn't be too big of an issue |
