Static (or semi static- on DSL and/or Fibe?

I have a client that has need for a static(ish) IP for his home security system (remote monitoring).

Right now he's got a 5mb DSL connection which changes the IP with each session. Does "Fibe" do any better (semi-static ala Cable) or is a static address available for regular DSL customers?

No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake.......

Most indies (Teksavvy, Caneris, Acanac, Velcom, etc.) offer static IP as an add-on for approx. ~$4/month

Another option might be just to get Dyn.org/dns. IIRC, they offer a free service that will track the dynamic IP and keep updated name server access.

He needs a domain for that, and that's not really an option.

he doesn't need a domain. they have hundreds of them, all you pick is which one you want to use and an available name infront of it.

so it would be abc@dyndns.org or whatever you choose
