[Rant] UPS has horrible service.

Not often you can see shipments from the same place going to basically the same geographical area. Anyway, a few weeks ago I ordered the iPad Mini, it was shipped on December 7. (I had also bought an iPod touch for my daughter which was mailed out and delivered within 3 days via FedEx) Anyway, my son (he's 9) decided he didn't want a Wii but instead an iPod touch as well, so I ordered one late December 7th, after I received a shipment notice for my iPad..(finally, in stock!) My sons iPod was also shipped FedEx, on December 8, a day after my iPad was sent on, via UPS. Check out the tracking for both devices.

FedEx appears to know what they are doing!

UPS is clueless on how to deliver mail.

So not only was the FedEx package mail out later, it's at least two days ahead of UPS in its delivery. FedEx was a day early for their delivery promise. UPS, by the looks of it, is requesting to be a day or two (like 5 days) late.

Kudo's to FedEx, they get my Rave of the Day. As for UPS, they suck.

I never liked UPS because they usually give you a bill when you get your product as well, some sort of agent fee's. (shouldn't happen with Apple since they pay all fee's)

Anyway, just pissed off because I wanted to play on my new toy tonight when I was done work, and now it ain't happening. *ANGRY* And knowing UPS, tomorrow won't be good either, so that leaves it until Monday and I won't be here, so I'll get a pick-up notice for next Friday, and I'll be out of town, so if I am lucky, I'll get it after Boxing Day (it's a holiday here on December 26th). Also way past Apple's promise of delivery by December 18.

UPS, YOU'RE A JOKE!

just realized too, Fedex did it in 13 hours (excluding time gained by crossing date zone) to get from China to delivery. Three countries too, China, USA and Canada.

For UPS, it was stuck lingering in the USA for 3 freaking days and 3 different cities.

In the old days it was routine to wait 30 days for delivery. You had no tracking at all, so when the item showed up, it showed up. Made for a nice surprise to find a box on your doorstep after you probably forgot you even ordered it.

Anyway, relax. You'll live longer.

Also in the old days, they had same day delivery.

It was just a package delivery service for stores.

Doesn't that UPS screenshot say it's being delivered today (and that you requested an odd delivery time?)?

I don't know, never had a problem with UPS. Have had stuff delivered by them NEXT day when I didn't even request any special type of delivery.

you obviously have no idea how their routing system is and both of them have their own...

besides, what's a day or two late..at least you can track it and it's moving...

you'll live...

No...they requested a delivery exception, not me. I am not sure who they would request though? Apple? Not me, because they never sent me any info.

Since I did see a delivery exception I e-mailed them asking them to try to get it here by tomorrow, or if not, I can go pick it up, it's only a 35 mile drive. (not that I want to drive out there...)

I'm just pissed because I'd like to have this before I go on holidays, last time they did a delivery exception it was in their office for two weeks collecting dust. Then when it came, they wanted $30 for agent fee's. Apple has covered all fee's, but if I buy anything from anywhere, if they ship UPS I decline buying.

UPS is okay delivering local, usually 1 day if within 60 miles...if you do a morning drop-off.

Are you sure I'll live? I have the patience of a 5 year old...LOL.

I'm okay if it's late, but I would have just bought it at Staples if I knew it was going to take a month to arrive though.

A month? Come on man, it shipped six days ago. The last time I ordered something from China, it took like 3 weeks to get here.

Also, if the shipper requested a change and UPS was not able to oblige that request, how is that UPS's fault? Why did the shipper make that change to begin with? Did the shipper make the same request to Fedex on the package that was delivered on the 11th?

I ordered it November 20th. I'm not hopeful it will come tomorrow so it will be a month on Monday.

It wasn't the shipper (Apple) that requested the change, it is UPS requesting the change.

FedEx never made any changes, they delivered early.

What I am unsure of is why Apple uses different services for different products.

Although FedEx did piss me off the one time, they simply never delivered my product..no notices, I went online to track and it stated it was in their office waiting for pick-up...but it did get there 3 days early. (about one week earlier than what Apple stated)

From the screenshot it looks like Apple requested it. It says "The Sender..."...unless you got further information from UPS?

I called Apple and they said they didn't send the request. Seems that the shipper refers to UPS.

By the looks of it, it got to Ontario late, and there was no way they could deliver it today.

This is what UPS is saying:

So my guess is that they're a few days behind schedule. (I just got this info about 20 minutes ago) Ah well...ca la vie.

So you order something from Apple and they ship it from China? Is that why Apple charges so much?

Everything Apple makes is made in China. It has to come from China. That's why you can buy an iPad for under $400 instead of over $1,000.

Shipping is always free.

If I was in the USA, I could have done in-store pick-up, a service they don't provide here.

I used the Apple Store because Apple currently has special financing for 6 months, so I used the Apple credit card.

Yea but it doesnt say shipper it sends sender. Unless apple paid for ground service which has a specified time window and because of christmas season, the drivers ran late which means after the evening cut off for ground, UPS will deliver it tomorrow because apple only paid for ground with a time frame of 9-5 for example and it wouldnt make it due to volume. makes somewhat sense especially since the exception talks about the commit time for your area.

Stores here sell Apple products for less than Apple charges at their own stores.

Higher end machines for both computers and phones/tablets all are cheaper than apple products, you pay for the name and the OS, that being said chinese labor is cheaper, but apple gouges their customers because they can

that being said UPS is usually good for me, in fact just had a package delivered today from target.com with regular shipping, 22lbs took 3 days total from purchase to at my door

they rung the doorbell, left the package(nice neighborhood) and was driving away as i pulled the package inside

Apple store or 'stores'.

The Apple Stores here will price match, since usually there is a sale going on somewhere. (right now MacBooks are all $150 less than Apple Store)

Here's a Microcenter ad from a couple weeks ago. Don't know how their prices compare. Sales tax is 3.5%.

I paid $329 no shipping cost. I DO have to pay sales tax, which is 5% national and 8% provincial.

Staples had them for $299 but were sold out in 2 minutes. And no one else had them either.

It's insane. Oh well...I can move to Alaska since they have 0% sales tax...and $329 is $329.

I had wonderful run ins with UPS and customs/duties before.. even when sending myself stuff. It was a huge mess that I despise UPS for, on top of the screwed up packages I kept receiving.

My advice is (when possible) use Purolator.

It's like me going to the USA to buy Canadian alcohol and bringing it back to Canada because it's cheaper in the US...

Crazy world we live in.

To the best of my knowledge, the shipper cannot indicate a delivery time "window". The only time-sensitive options the shipper has is with 1-day or 2-day deliveries and you can specify to deliver BEFORE a few times (like 8am, 10:30am, and 3pm). That's for BUSINESS addresses too. Residential has different times, at least for the afternoon.

And UPS will hardly not deliver on a day due to volume. Their drivers are now out until 8 or 9pm.
