[MN] Problem returns to MN Iron Range?

This morning I have begun experiencing the same issue that affected users in this area about one month ago--very slow loading of Internet sites, downloads stalling, etc, even though modem stays bonded and connected. When I could finally load the Mediacom support site, one of the first posts this morning was a user from my zip code experiencing issues. Anyone else up here seeing this again? Last time it happened there were "no reported outages", but eventually they discovered that a problem with the local head-end was causing it.

We had a user by the same name on our company forums with this issue, and I believe it has been resolved. Are things looking better now?

Yes that was me, when I saw 2 others with the same issue that were also from this area. Glad to say that as of now things seem back to normal. Do you know if the issue was a head-end problem like last month?

I spoke too soon; problem is back as of 1:09pm CST. Hanging web sites (incl. the mediacomcable.com support site), stalled downloads.

Glad to see someone else is on the ball.

This problem has spilled over to the Aurora (55705) and Hoyt Lakes (55750) areas.

Youtube fails to load at lowest possible quality, and websites take an eternity to load partially.

EDIT:

Based on my routing attempts, if I had to take my guess at it - there's one foul jump about midway down the connection path.

This is my PingPlotter summary, and I have bolded what I would guess at as the bad link:

Hey PS, yeah same here, it seems to go on/off at about 20 minute intervals, "off" meaning what you describe, hanging downloads, websites partially load then stall, etc. Identical to November 12th-ish experience, head end here is from Iron to Hoyt Lakes I was told by a MC line tech and from your info must be the same deal throughout.

I am experiencing the same thing in Aurora. Like Sveakul said, the same as about a month ago. I know MediacomChad helped last time. Hope they get it figured out!

Hi Jim47, yes miserable here now, seems to be geting worse. I stopped posting to the mediacomcable.com site because it won't load, and because MediacomChad helped us here before so I'll stay here. Now am just going to order a Poor Gary's pizza and hope it's fixed when I'm done!

Hi Sveakul, Well it still is not fixed this morning. Taking well over a minute to load sites now. Very flustrating! Hope MediacomChad helps out again!

Yes it's Sunday 8:41am and the problem persists--stalling downloads, super-slow websites, etc. It will seem to disappear for a couple of minutes, and then come right back. Maybe I'm missing something, but since this is exactly the same problem in exactly the same area as the November 12-ish issue, isn't the answer to apply the same solution as was done then? Surely they have logs that show what the problem was last time. Sucks to go through this all weekend.

Can you send me an IM with your account or phone number? I will be happy to look into this for you.

I sent the IM just now. Please let the NOC know that the situation mirrors the November 12 one, which they did solve successfully at that time.

I'm in Aurora and am also experiencing the same problems as in November. Some sites load fine while others like netflix, google, and youtube barely load. My speedtest results look fine, then again they looked good in november.

Hi stark4142, here it seems to cycle in and out every several minutes, irregularly but never lasts more than 20 minutes in one "direction". When the problem is "on", I can't load mediacomcable.com or cnn.com, but can load this site and nbcnews.com, for instance. A download from Giganews will stop completely mid-stride. When it cycles back to "normal", all will be fine again for a short while. This is a shopping Sunday and most people have been out all day so I'm hoping as more sit down to their PC here more will post their results. When I can load the mediacom support site, I can see the same thing being reported at Hermantown all day.

What speeds are you currently getting?

stark4142

Again, it's like in November, if you're looking at speedtest, the speeds look fine. It's just websites like youtube, google, and some others load very slowly or not at all.

Aye to that. It's not as bad as it was in November for me, but it's the similar type of problem. Sluggish load speeds, fine speed tests.

I play a lot of games, and I'm having no issues staying connected to my TeamSpeak server or any of my clients, but loading websites? Forget about it. (Sometimes.)

EDIT: Okay, as of today I take that back - the problems are as bad as they used to be last month. Images won't even load now but yet I maintain a constant connection.

Agreed, I got home from work at 9 am this morning and launched up diablo 3, and some league of legends, both ran fine-ish; had some minor lag in LoL but I'm not sure it was my connection. Went to put on a youtube video, and the 2 minute video took 10 minutes to get half way buffered. Never once has the connection dropped though. I'm not sure what they did last month, but the symptoms are uncannily similar.

I would like to reassess, that PingPlotter still shows one faulty, weak link in the line.

This particular jump has a monstrously higher error and packet loss rating than the line as a whole.

51 errors (errors rated in seconds, so 51s downtime total) and 13.2% PL rating.

EDIT2:

Now seeing Packet Loss in the whole line as the service begins to crawl slower.

Here is a trace to mediacomcable.com which always stalls trying to load when the problem is "active"--about every 15 minutes or less. Note hops 8 and 9. With this many people having the same problem, and a copy of last month's at that, hard to understand why it's taking so long to identify and fix.

Now on 4g with my smartphone as service has been totally interrupted. Hopefully the issue is being resolved.

This all-day problem now in its 5th day. "Site A" is an example of a site that completely stalls out when the ~10 min. cycle starts; "Site B" is an example of a site that pretty much holds its own all the time, although it does slow down during the cycle. This is what the techs seem to be asking to see here and on the Mediacom site (which is full of complaints on the same Northern MN issue), so here it is. Once again, modem never disconnects. Extremely frustrating; same go/no-go cycle also affecting FTP to my worksite. Fellow users please continue to post here on your experiences so this will finally get fixed.

My traceroute pics for "Site A" and "Site B" mentioned in my last post didn't upload for some reason; trying them again here.

its easy to see its a ATT router that is causing the problem. This is mediacoms problem they only use ATT for there backbone.
