Re: It is possible? Usenet is Dead?

I have never ever generally seen it referred to as "the Usenet" as a matter of fact. Point to Rojo.

From a site in the Netherlands? Where the official language is Dutch and things get "lost in translation"? Yes, find a better source with a reference to "the Usenet".

Wikipedia says Usenet sans "the".

P.S. You can't read Dutch? It's like a sibling to English; nothing like trying to translate Japanese!

Neither their Italian, French nor even Dutch page calls it 'the Usenet.'

Simply Usenet.

»it.usenet.nl/usenet/
»fr.usenet.nl/usenet/
»nl.usenet.nl/usenet/

It just sounds pretentious, is all.

So does this trivial quibble over the word, "the."

Couldn't find it on the Usenet or on the P2P, but found it on the IRC

Too many "the". Waist of bytes.

It has no "meaning" in either connotation, or denotation. It is just a "definite article". Some languages have it; Spanish in two genders and cases, German in three genders and four cases. Others don't; definitely Japanese, possibly Chinese, as well.

Mine was a general comment about this thread's direction but feel free to resort to personal putdowns. It is, after all, THE Internets.
