VPN or Usenet ?

Moving on and learning lessons, time to invest a bit in protection.
VPN will set you back about 8$ a month, Usenet about 10$.

Which would you choose, and why ?

100% legal, no concerns ever:

»www.cinemail.ca/index.cfm

More expensive, but perhaps worth it.

(Of course, this doesn't mean you will never be identified for a sting operation.)

ETA: Sorry, I think that came off as a little flippant. Others will answer the question, but I thought I'd point out that there are some non-instant options.

Back in 2009 I subscribed to Rogersvideodirect for one month or so. It was a pain in the ass because I always got the new releases and the movies from the top of the list after a few weeks.
So I dont think it will work the way you want.

I'm sorry, are you suggesting I rent plastic discs ?
And I actually have to wait for it to arrive in the mail ?
Is this 2004 or something ?

For online Netflix.ca ($8/month) and Cackle.com (free but a lot less selection, still some old TV shows to pass the time like Sanford and Son as well as Starsky and Hutch). A few TV station web sites can also be used to catch up on shows missed recently as they usually have the last episode or two available for streaming. Most also have a small collection of old content.

Those plus using a media center PC to record over the air broadcasts works for me. Lot of movies and shows to record and watch latter with most in full 1080p HD so they look great.

Usenet -
because downloading files is actually 100% legal in Canada.

You can find a good VPN for as little as $37/month.
Headquarter in Europe or Asia, servers everywhere, speed for me is 8-10 Mb/sec down on TSI 18/0.5 profile, server in NL.
www.ibvpn.com - TorrentVPN plan, try it for $5 first month and $37 for a year after that if you like it.

Astraweb has unlimited 10 m/sec 20 dollars for 3 months. They bill you every 3 months for 20 dollars U.S. They have higher priced unlimited for the rest of the world outside of Canada with true connections like 1 gigabyte and 10 gigabyte connections.

Astraweb has automated DMCA takedowns. Most usenet providers are having problems with takedowns. If you go with usenet, you'll need to find a reliable server like ssl-news with a couple of backup servers to fill in the inevitable incomplete files. It's also getting harder to find good nzb index sites. If you're comfortable with binsearch and nzbindex or setting up your own indexer, usenet is still worth it.

Usenet = downloading files only

VPN = everything from downloading files to surfing the web

My vote is VPN for its versatility.

Well, you can go online services too (Netflix, etc.).

You do realise that people asking the best way to get copyrighted material is a shaky topic at best, right?

Don't waste your money get a free dropbox account and then signup with Boxopus. Boxopus downloads the torrent for you then it is uploaded onto your dropbox account.

I went with VPN. Private Internet Access was the one I chose, but there are many out there. The plan was to check it out for a month. $7 is a cheap experiment. It runs at about 98% my old speed. I think I will stay on.
I checked out Usenet as that is what I used i the early nineties. But READ the fine print.
Cheers;

Speedbox can easily be traced back to your IP. A Seedbox is not safe his claim is faults. Usernet is a target as well.

Usenet might be a target as well, but since you download from usenet only (not uploading a single byte from the file) means they can only go to the original poster who uploaded the file as long as it is legal to download for personal use. That is why usenet is a target, but not a good one for copyright trolls

Anonymous666

@nltelcom.net

Get a VPN in a different country than you live in and then get a Seedbox in another country. Sign up for the Seedbox using an email address created through the VPN, make sure you never log into the Seedbox or the email account without the VPN. Pay for the VPN using a prepaid Visa Gift Card that you bought with Cash.

It is not "legal to download for personal use".

I tried usenet a few days ago.
The files I downloaded once unpacked ended up being an application of some sort, every time w/out fail. Either I have a file association wrong, or these are virus' of some sort.
The only thing I've had luck with is eBooks, likely as the file is so small.

I dont think so.

Usenet is great. sabnzbd + sickbeard + moviegrabber + local nzb indexer.

As long as you automate it, it grabs everything before it gets DMCA'd.
