No more online quality online gaming!!!

Come the new year I will be going back to Shaw, my only other option. Telus has pissed me off just too much with their high latency. The more capacity they try to give their customers the more unstable the connection is.

Really?
I'm running Telus Optik Internet (15 meg down/1 meg up) and here is what I get:

Good luck. I switched from Shaw to Telus because Shaw was worse for gaming I found, especially in downtown Vancouver itself.

I heard if you get a better VDSL2 plan it improves.

15 Mbps ADSL2+ with 30ms to first hop. It use to be only 12ms but Telus kept making things worse and worse in my area.

You list that you are in Chilliwack. That alone will explain most of your problems. If 6.0 is all that's available there you can be sure you're not on the latest and greatest hardware either.

Delta's speedtest server also has worse ping than the Vancouver ones. As for Bellingham, there's nothing wrong with a 43ms ping. 73ms isn't that bad either. I've played games with a 100ms ping and still slaughtered everyone on the server. It's not hard. It's called skill.

Chilliwack too. Just recently upgraded from 15/1 with speedtouch to 25/3 with bridged actiontech.

Yes, its horrible.

Sindows is kind of showing worst case tests. Ping to Delta cable is pretty irrelevant. When I traceroute them it ends up around 40 ms anyhow, even though speedtest.net shows around 70.

Not that Telus' routing is perfect but its not really much worse than Shaw's. Some of you ADSL people need to get on the low latency profile if you're gaming though.

Sindows, those are pretty normal pings for an ADSL connection with high impulse protection. You should be able to get that changed if it bothers you, unless you get a dick in support.

My pings were 30-45 ms to close servers before

That is because 5ms max delay is the standard profile for Optik 50. We had to do that, because at those rates we're exhausting interleaving memory; 76/12 at 5ms is the max we can do while still using PhyR.

Updated profile and actiontec bridged.
Better ping but lower uploads.
I'm told this is "way she goes" unless I upgrade to a 25Mb plan with VDSL2 ability

No probs

Why don't you upgrade?
Looks like everyone here on 50 has sub-10ms pings

I got 5ms all the time when there was a TELUS server on speedtest.net. I was wondering why it was always 5ms every time... My pings are still better now than when i was on 25/3.

Because the telus speedtest server is on the telus network, theres no more latency introduced. Maybe 500usecs.

I do not have VDSL2 capabilities, and am getting pretty decent ping.
I am on the 15mb plan. I don't think that the plan and VDSL2 matter.
Here are some more tests I did today. They are pretty consistent.

Your probably on VDSL2, ADSL2+ can't have that low ping and high upload.

I currently have an Actiontec V1000H router, and as per my understanding, it doesn't support VDSL2.
Update: My router is not bridged. It hasn't been modified in any way.
It is currently running the latest, official firmware (31.30L.57).

The Actiontec supports VDSL2 just fine.

The V1000H supports VDSL2?
I thought that only the V2000H supported VDSL2.
What's the difference between the 2 routers then?

V2000H does pair bonding where you can combine two lines in to increase bandwidth. The V1000H only has one line in. The router half is probably the same on both though.

Actually it can, the reason your upstream is lower is because I'm forcing INP=2 with 5ms of delay. This constrains the framing parameters and causes your upstream to drop to ~800kbit. I would never recommend running below INP=2, which is why I'm using that profile.

Correct, they're basically the same device, the only difference is the V2000H has an additional BCM6306 AFE wired to the 2nd RJ11 jack.

Given your extremely low latency it's clear you're not on DSL at all, but ETTS or GPON. Lucky guy!
