KAV vanishes?

Did a manual check on KAV 2012 for any outstanding update and was informed that I was entitled to a free update to KAV 2013. Clicked through and after a great deal of churning, I got a message that the update had failed and it was rolled back.

Only problem is that I now have NO KAV at all.

Suggestions?

Locate the "former" version an re-install it......then try again to upgrade,,,,,,the kav "key" should still be in your registry....hopefully.
Best just try to google for kav 2012 an hope you can still locate a copy.

Do you need an official download for KAV 2012?

You might want to ask about the issue in the Kaspersky user forum. I'm sure they can help you.

I just recently upgraded my KIS2012 to 2013. What I did was download, from the Kaspersky site the KIS2013.
Then uninstalled 2012 with the option to keep/save the Activation codes.
I think I rebooted, then installed the 2013, and was all set after it updated the database.
Prior to that, I was paranoid that I lose everything, not have the activation code, and in general have one of my worst nightmares. -- Went through without a hitch.
Hope this helps.

You will probably have to use the Kaspersky removal tool to remove all traces of KAV and then you should be able to install KAV 2013. I learned from experience it's always better to do a clean install with any Kaspersky product.
Use the link I provided in my earlier post for the Kaspersky forum and there will be instructions on how to upgrade and a link for the removal tool.

@wanadoo.fr

Are those here that upgraded, happy with the 2013 product (either KAV or KIS) versus 2012?

I haven't upgraded every year, and in some cases, found it safer to wait a few months when the initial release of a newer version brought advantages but also some unresolved issue(s).

I think once it has uninstalled the older version, there is no roll back function. For updates yes, roll back works fine, but for a product update I'd think it would create more issues than just replacing everything - or in this case, nothing was returned to the old state.

I maybe wrong, but I wonder if the older installer files were there, if they had of been it may have had something to work with.

This is hear say as I've not tested it, but without a 2012 installer folder it would have a hard time even if it was to roll back correctly.

I went through this yesterday. You will need to download the uninstall tool and run. Then you can install 2013. Unless you run the tool, you won't be able to install any version of KAV or KIS.

I haven't upgraded every year, and in some cases, found it safer to wait a few months when the initial release of a newer version brought advantages but also some unresolved issue(s).

I was forced into the 2013 KIS update, because of problems with images within comcast forums. I had seen on the KAV forums a mention of problems with images after KAV made changes to accommodate Win 8 users.. This is the link to KAV forums:
»forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?sh···c=247494

As I stated above, I had no problems with uninstalling KIS 2012 & installing KIS 2013. I did not use the uninstall tool.
To answer Red2's question, I haven't decided if I'm happy with this upgrade or not. I always wait much longer than this to upgrade to a newer version. Time will tell..
