SE Michigan Routing/Latency issues

Is anyone else in the SE MI area experiencing high latency and dropped packets? I'm getting response times all over the map from a low of 13ms to upwards of 1000+. WoW is connected to Level3 in the area and accessing my work site (off of Level3 as well - 6 hops away) is horrible. Most response times are greater than 200ms for 6 hops! Accessing other sites like Google/Yahoo exhibit the same behavior.

Does the latency begin on any specific Level3 hop?

My traceroute to a resolver on their network:

  1 1 ms <1 ms <1 ms pfSense.localdomain [192.168.0.1]
 2 * * * Request timed out.
 3 14 ms 10 ms 12 ms 10.15.25.14
 4 12 ms 11 ms 12 ms 10.15.8.17
 5 15 ms 17 ms 16 ms te-3-4.car2.Detroit1.Level3.net [4.53.74.117]
 6 18 ms 18 ms 20 ms ae-11-11.car1.Detroit1.Level3.net [4.69.133.245]
 7 * * * Request timed out.
 8 * * * Request timed out.
 9 18 ms 19 ms 22 ms 4.69.158.237
10 18 ms 19 ms 19 ms a.resolvers.level3.net [4.2.2.1]

The trace to Google is equally problem free here.

Hi Sidistic. Can you get more specific? Google and Yahoo have lots of IPs. Can you post a tracert/traceroute?

Luwigie, funny you should pick 4.2.2.1. Try 25 or more pings and their priority will drop 5 to 30% typical. Normal for them in recent years.

The issue wasn't with reaching Level3 (my work is connected to the same L3 router). It was reaching Level3. Of course rebooting the Arris fixed the issue. Guess it hadn't been rebooted in 2 weeks which is strange because the wireless always flakes out on it every couple days .

Yeah, yeah.. reboot and try again.
