Re: Kelowna, B.C., dubious winner as drunk-driving capital of Ca I think if remove the "summer visitors" from the list Kelowna's rating would drop through the floor.

We have millions of thousands of summer visitors here, tens of thousands of them are "permanent" summer residents who own property here from the wild-west-drunk-driving-is-a-speeding-ticket USA, yet drunk driving isn't very much of an issue compared to other areas of Canada. |

This is like a college town in the summer and even at the resorts in the winter.............
I wasn't surprised at the results, cause I drive here everyday.
Keep the fucking Albertan cowboys home and we'll be better off. -- Sarcasm is the bodys natural defense against stupidity. |

| reply to ZZZZZZZ said by ZZZZZZZ:It is a tourist problem and if any of you had visited you'd know that. Haha, that excuse doesn't fly when you're attempting to argue this with someone who lives in the busiest and most-visited tourist region in the country that isn't even a blip as far as impaired driving charges goes.
A more reasonable explanation is that whatever police service serves Kelowna is bloody gung-ho about RIDE checks and, as a result, simply catches more people. |

You should see the lakes up there in the summer.....packed with houseboats which are mostly filled with drunken 20-somethings. From my time up there the real hell raisers are visitors from Alberta. But yes, the BC 20-somethings aren't far behind.
This past 10-15 years the RCMP and municipal police in BC have made roadblocks a 365 day a year job. When the new laws came in the bars, restaurants and pubs started bitching as booze sales dropped. When we go out it's 1 glass of wine or a sleeve of beer. I won't even drink a pint anymore.
