Re: NUBE - need more ethernet ports att Uverse 2WIRE

A switch is the preferred way; just plug it into any of the LAN ports on the AT&T router.

If you already have it you can probably use that Netgear router. First, hook it up to a computer (do NOT connect it to the AT&T router yet) and log in to its admin interface and disable the DHCP server. If it does not allow you to disable the DHCP server then it CANNOT be used. After you disable it, just use a cable and connect one of its LAN ports to one of the LAN ports on the AT&T router. Do not use the WAN port for anything.

thanks for the detailed reply. I will try as you suggested with the router I have. If by chance I can not turn off DHCP, which type of switch should i look to buy?

switches do not have DHCP. routers do.

that being said, you can still use a router as a switch if you just use the LAN side with disabled DHCP.
