Flaherty influences CRTC how many times?

....and on what issues?
Are there other smoking guns in Flaherty's or other cabinet minister's closet regarding telecom?

Finance Minister Jim Flaherty urged the federal broadcast regulator to grant a radio licence to a company in his Ontario riding even though government rules on cabinet responsibility forbid ministers from influencing the decisions of administrative tribunals.

Possible violations of the Conflict of Interest Act are investigated by federal ethics commissioner Mary Dawson.

----
Mary Dawson was appointed by Harper, so I'm not sanguine about any disciplinary action from her office.

What to do about it? Well, there's always precedent to rely upon: "David Collenette resigned as defence minister in 1996 after it emerged that he wrote the federal immigration board seeking a review of a constituent's request for a speedy appeal hearing."

The title of the story on The Star article is better than HufPo's.

Finance Minister Jim Flaherty tried to influence CRTC decision on radio licence
»www.thestar.com/news/canada/arti···-licence

The title even stinks of corruption

Versus the HufPo:

Flaherty's CRTC Letter Supporting Radio Licence For Durham Radio Inc. Contravenes Cabinet Rules

Yaaawn.

The Star wins!

big difference between flopperty and the net thingy with 464000 people signing a petition in 4 days and him trying to get a potential radio license deal done where he makes profit.
the difference is the human population of canada was saying NO and doing it so fast that they had to act quick so that open media could not say they had millions of support.
ALSO when you get protests about caps and such ....and ...oh nvm
the fact is flopperty has had a rob ford momment lets not argue about other stuff he did that he should have and did vs stuff he is clearly not supposed too.

I'll add hes been in federal govt for years now and thus one can also argue he has no excuse to know he was not supposed to do what he did. ITS also why we need to turf rob ford as an example and make this type a crap a ten year prison term.

ME thinks if 500,000 people signed another petition in 4 days the govt would do just about anything to stop the craziness....

The CRTC is arms' length from the government.

Him and Rib Rob Ford make quite the 'willful ignorance' pair.

The Cons will find a way to construe that these rules don't apply to this situation and that he'll be cleared of all "wrong-doing".

Now dillyhammer will have to come up with something funny using the words, "Influence peddling".

Canada finance minister apologizes after reprimand
»ca.reuters.com/article/domesticN···20130118

Canadian Finance Minister Jim Flaherty apologized on Friday for breaking ethics rules when he lobbied on behalf of a constituent who wanted to set up a radio station, and said it was an "oversight" that would not happen again. ...

Hrmph. How about that. Influence peddling only requires a Canadian Government Minister to say, "it was an oversight".

Bet not many people know this little factoid in Canadian ethics law that governs Ministers.

Two more Tory MP's try to use their positions to influence a CRTC outcome.

Prime Minister Office makes it know they support influence peddling.

The two MP's are ratted out here:
»www2.macleans.ca/2013/01/25/plea···he-crtc/

Conflict of interest letters both got, which Harper disagrees with.

»ciec-ccie.gc.ca/resources/Files/···dams.PDF

»ciec-ccie.gc.ca/resources/Files/···rrie.PDF

We just need a Quebec style Tory corruption inquiry to round things off.
