1 edit | 2 DVR's playback stutters, skips and pauses A new problem at my house, which I've never fully decided is with Charter, its equipment, or miine, but I've had off/on again issues for almost a year. This started about two weeks ago and I am now convinced it isn't my equipment or wiring. All of a sudden, playing back some shows causes stutters/skips/pauses. Last night, it was Bones. I have no determined whether it's any one network but it's always a major one like Fox.
The problem also occurs on a second DVR in a different room. Just last spring, we had other issues and Charter replaced everything from the pole to our TV. That somewhat similar issue went away about a week or two afterwards but not due to anything Charter did at my house.
I'm going to post this on the tech board but curious if anyone else has had the same problem, especially recently.
EDIT: Hmph! I see the Charter Direct forum no longer exists. I wasn't going to say I'm giving Charter just one shot to make this problem go away but I will now.
I've been with Charter since they came to St. Charles, MO at around 2000. I moved two years ago. I despise ATT with a purple passion due to all my dealings with them in the past and at my business but this just may have forced my hand. |

Hope you get your problem solved soon. |

 | reply to howardfine What DVR setup do you have? Some of them use MOCA, which is for lack of a better term Ethernet over Coax at a high frequency (850-1500MHz) to stream the DVR content to your remote box.
If you have older or cheap (poor quality, not cost) cable or spliters in your home, they may be causing issues. (most splitters and cables are marked with a frequency that they're rated to).
As a side note, if the content is stored on your main DVR, and the issues arrise when you try to playback on a slave unit, it's either the cabling or the boxes in the house. Make sure all of the connectors are well constructed and tight (the connectors behind the wallplates as well).
When you start getting into the higher frequencies (500MHz-2GHz), cable quality and connector quality play a much higher role in end to end performance. |

 | reply to howardfine Every time i hear of an issue such as this it seem to be FOX network programing i remember major issues with the last season of 24. I think these issues are caused by Digital Copyright Encoding put on by the broadcaster if it were a problem with Charter or your DVR it would happen on all recordings reguardless of the source. |

I have also had problems with U-verse with FOX and was told by AT&T that it was a FOX problem. I tend to believe them because it is the only station that I have any problems with.
I am switching to Charter full service after 43 years with Ma Bell systems across the Country and I told them why.
It is a shame that they can't give you a straight answer about your bill!!! |

Well that's interesting. I have not figured out if it's only one network or not cause it just started a couple weeks ago. I do notice occasional short pauses when I watch the hockey game on Fox Sports Midwest.
We have one new black Motorola box, not a Moxi, and an older gray Motorola box cause they ran out of the black ones. Both had the same problem on the same show. These problems don't occur every day or on every show and only at night which really hurts trying to troubleshoot.
@zach3 - My wife and son both want me to switch to Uverse because my she helped set her mother up on it and they haven't had any problems and neither did my son at his apartment but, like you said, when my wife tried to make some changes, it was pure hell on the phone for four hours.
My problems began with them when I lived on the outskirts of town (St. Charles) and DSL was just starting to move into the area. ATT insisted on selling me their package, going as far as sending me a modem, but DSL wasn't available where I was. It took 3 years (and several free modems) before I was able to get it, and it was far slower and unreliable than promised. |

Overall AT&T has been good to me over the years but I became so frustrated with them back in November and all of their changes and my bills jumping around like Jack Rabbits for the past 3 months I finally gave up.
By the way I also had a friend on the inside that attempted to assist me and he finally threw his hands up and told me to switch!!!
Must really be getting bad in the jungle!!

 | reply to howardfine I got tired of problems with the Charter DVRs, and the fact that the solution they have to being able to record more that 2 shows at once is to get more DVRs. With that you have to move room to room to watch what is recorded. The solution I found is Cable Cards are $2.00 each a month, and I moved to TIVO, have had no problems since I made the change. No on-demand but I dont use it anyway so no loss there. |
