WRT-54G

Probably one of the best Linksys routers was the WRT-54G that became open source. I run Tomato on mine and it is fantastic. I wish they supported 802.11n and/or 802.11ac.

I have the LinkSys E3000 (802.11n) which I run TomatoUSB on and it works fine.

I'll say though that the WRT-54G was probably the last "best designed" router from Linksys. Newer routers removed the external antenna because external antennas are apparently an eyesore. As a result the range on my E3000 is not as good as my older WRT54GL.

Tech companies should not choose looks over functionality.
