| 4x4 DOCSIS 3.0 modems soon to not be recommended? I noticed that TWC is starting to pickup with its deployments of 8 downtstreams and upstream bonding so does this mean that TWC is not going recommend the 4 down 4 up modems anymore or are they going to regulate them to standard and below tiers? I know that Dallas just got the 75 down 5 up tier which I would guess getting a 8x4 modem would be recommend for because of congestion possibilities not to mention the benefit of having more than 4 downstream channels. |

| When they first started charging for modem rentals, the only DOCSIS 3 modems on the approved list were 8x4 (the Motorola SB6141 and SBG6580).
I was surprised to see them add 4x4 modems to the list, and suspect this was primarily done due to availability concerns. At the time, the SB6141 was kind of hard to find... there was no retail packaged version, so the only choices were a few sellers on Amazon (who increased their prices after the rental fee started) or taking your chances on eBay. Now, retail availability of 8x4 modems is starting to improve. |
