I was told somewhere on the Comcast forums it was a Seagate ST1000VM002 1TB hard drive because of the lack of eSATA external drive support right now.

Yup, would be better if we could use an external drive as well, then we'd have 2TB of recording space.

At the end of a status page for external hard drive support for Motorola DVRs (»media2.comcast.net/anon. ··· 9-13.pdf) it also says:

This feature is currently only available on the DVRs listed on the website and is not currently compatible with DVRs on the XFINITY TV X1 platform; that DVR includes a 1TB internal hard drive.
