[INTERNET] New Bandwidth Limits

So, with the news that Cogeco is increasing speeds and bandwidth for their internet tiers, Bell has come out with an unlimited addon for $10 with 3 services, and $30 with two or 1 service. I wonder if Cogeco is going to attempt to compete with this, since Bell is their competition among big ISP's

Because that would require Cogeco to use channel bonding (4 channels) for the upstream instead of just using 1 channel. Its not that they're not reciprocating, its just that the network may not be ready for it, as its congested enough as is.

Yes its for real. Its $10 addon if you have 3 services, $30 if you have less than 3 services. Although I have had 2 friends get the $10 when they are on dryloop only.

I never in my life thought I would say this but I would consider Bell... Cogeco has always seemed the lesser of the two evils but that has slowly been changing.

Might be time to go Fibe TV and Fibe Internet seeing that it will be available next month on my street!

Ya right Cogeco is going to go Unlimited any option. That would be when pigs fly. They know people to not like Bell and many of them go with Cogeco just because the name Bell.

Cogeco HAD unlimited service over 10 years ago, I know for sure, but like every other ISP, they see money in UBB and got rid of the package, even when grandfathered in they removed it.

It isn't just about the money, though it is a huge factor.

These companies are protecting their legacy business models - outdated modes of business that are failing and they have no idea what to do. So they've tacked on these insane charges with obscene markup onto their internet services to prevent people from ditching their legacy cable tv services. The profits are a side effect that stokes shareholder value.

This is precisely why Canada ranks so low for internet access and why that will not only continue, but get worse.

FWIW, Cogeco has been upgrading their infrastructure recently. Channel bonding on the upload is becoming far more prevalent. Upload speeds greater than 2mbps are in the works.

If Cogeco intends to compete with Bell (or anyone else for that matter), an unlimited option has to happen. It may be costly ($30 is nuts IMHO) though.

You make it sound like they were just following everyone's lead when they were one of the first proponents of the UBB money-grab.
