| Oldest running MAIN PC? I've been cruising the forums recently and I read all about the high speed this/that/etc. It really struck me when I read "I still have an older i7". Wow - I need an upgrade. In that light, I'd ask: WHAT IS YOUR OLDEST - STILL RUNNING - MAIN PC?
Mine: BUILT: Q4/2006 PROCESSOR: 2 x Intel Xeon 5355 RAM: 16GB DDR2/667mHz SATA: YES / II (3GB/S) SAS: YES FSB: 1333mHz PCIe: Yes, v1.x (x16 x 2), 6 slots USB: Yes (USB2) x 8 IEEE1394: YES x1 VIDEO: Came with Quadro 4600 - now a simple/old GeForce 250 NETWORK: 1GB/E AUDIO: Integrated Hi-Def - something - don't know, don't care.
Not sure what I can't do on this v. buying a new one. -- That's "MISTER" Kafir to you. |

This system has been on 24/7 for the past 5 years and is still my main system to this day. I recently did a rebuild on it, but still using same hard drive, ram, cpu, etc and don't really have any plans on upgrading anytime soon, at least not the main parts.... want to get more/larger hard drives, bigger power supply, etc. I've already replaced the GPU, but I ran the stock GPU (8800 GT) up until a couple months ago.
The system has been through MANY OS's, including XP, Vista, 7, and now 8. |

Handed it off to him a few years ago after taking off the OC and putting the hard drives in RAID1 instead of RAID0.
My mom's Athlon XP from 2003 was put out to pasture (or rather out behind the barn) last year. |

It's my wife's main computer. The integrated wifi has died, so she uses a Buffalo micro USB adapter. Still runs great, and I upgraded the HD from a 320GB 5400rpm drive to a Momentus XT (hybrid). -- Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. |

I actually built 3 of them at the same time but killed one of them recently by breaking my own rule of not being smart enough to update the BIOS.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Asus P5G41C-M LX (supports both DDR2 and DDR3) 8GB DDR3 1600 1TB HDD 8800GTS Antec 300 case Antec 650W PSU Asus Blu-Ray drive 2560x1440 Auria EQ276W 27" IPS LED monitor
And so on,
.
This is my Wifes dedicated telecommute system which is only used about once a week unless there is a real crunch.
I decommissioned the AMD Athlon X2 4800+ / 3800+ / 3500+ / 3000+ and Athlon XP systems some time ago. |

 | reply to ImpldConsent I rebuilt my rig about two or three years ago which is on 24/7 except for Windows updates or a software install that asks for a restart.
Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 GHz 4 GB DDR2 Nvidia Quadro 9600 PCI-E 80 GB SATA II (main drive) 640 GB SATA III (slave drive)
I'm planning on replacing the 19" Dell monitor I bought in 2003 for a 24" Dell when I can. -- Illegal aliens have always been a problem in the United States. Ask any Indian. Robert Orben
