[Anav's Generlink manual connect power switch question]Apologies if this is not directly related but since were on the topic of electricals and power outages.... Has anyone got experience with the Generlink manual connect power switch that goes over ones electric meter. I am thinking this is a flexible, least fuss method of providing backup power for my generator (tired of open doors and cables into the house.) |

I went with an additional breaker box wired to the outside plug to a generator as recommended by my electrician friend. It just segregates the breakers I want to a separate panel run by the generator instead of trying to power the whole house. |

Well I had thought of that but then your limited to the circuits you have chosen and its usually predicated by the generator you have at the moment. The generlink type option appeals to me in that it allows the home owner to decide which circuits are connected (any combination at any time of course not exceeding loads). Many times the startup of an electrical appliance is killer whil its steady state load is quite low so having flexibility seems worthwhile. I dont have to add any other boxes or panels inside the garage which has little room left anyway and Im not keen to mess with a wall full of wiring. There is no danger to me or the house or the outside system with this setup. |

This caught my interest its a brilliant and tidy solution if it works as described. Their website unfortunately is incomplete on detail about cost and I will have to contact them. The device may have a lot of potential as a generator connection solution. |

Exactly, the chimney sweep that came by the other day (no cleaning since BIS installed - I know negligent, but no trace of creosate just really sooty - only burn fake logs around xmas time mostly) anyway he had it installed and swears by it. I did a search on the net and there are some similar products but theirs seems to be the best of the lot. It looks like prices ranges from around $500 to $1100 (us prices, higher in canada) from what Ive seen factors include - additional surge suppressor, larger amperage I think there is a 30 and 40 amp model and diff lengths of cord 20, 40, 60 foot lengths depending where you buy. In other words putting in a separat box in the garage is much cheaper but again there are numerous pros and cons to weigh. I think my local Harris and Roome might carry it but this shop in Minden (I think I went to Camp Calumet near there when I was a wee lad) also carries them and had a webite. » www.generatorsolutions.c ··· ials.phpI see they have pricing and compatible chart for generators acccckkk my em3000c is not listed em3000 good, em3000cc no good?( |

Thanks I would like this for our cottage. Gas engine 3 kw Honda inverter genny would be plug and play with this device in place. |

Re: [Anav's Generlink manual connect power switch question]I just plug the generator into one of the plugs in my shed and made sure the furnace and lights and of course computer so I can post here are on the same side of the panel. |

My solution was only about $200 for the panel and trade PC work for my electrician friend. I do only specify which breakers I want power to as I only have a 5500W genny to run Gas furnace\water heater exhaust fans, well pump (biggy), freezer, fridge, microwave and various light in basement and upstairs. Also I can start up each breaker one by one so as not to overload the generator.. especially when the well pump kicks in. |

Re: [Anav's Generlink manual connect power switch question]Yup depends on your requirements.
I have many circuits and thus a small box that would match my generator would be extremely limiting. Stuck with what decisions youve made.
On the other hand, the generlink solution would allow me access to all my circuits (not all at the same time of course), so I could mix and match appropriately when required - including compensating on the fly for startupload of things. I
In addition if it would allow an upgrade to a more powerful generator and thus access more circuits simulatneously.
Its easy enough for anyone to use.... Easy plugin, circuits are all labeled. There would be a need to have a cheat sheet of combos, considering the load perhaps.
Removes all the running of wires through open doors and running through the house.
I dont want to nor have space for an additional box inside and not having the hassle of that kind of install is a bonus. |
