Google → [Apps] "Over the Top" MMS

Are there any app out there that allow free MMS to be sent to any cell phone number with out getting your carrier involved?

I have a Google LG Nexus 4 phone and want to be able to send/receive MMS with out subscribing to my carrier$ me$$aging plan by just using data.

I know Google Voice allows SMS to/from others using my Google Voice number, but I am looking for a service that allows MMS to be sent that just uses my data,

There are a ridiculous number of messaging apps that allow you to do this. You and the person you want to send to would obviously both be required to have the app.

When I say ridiculous number of messaging apps, I'm not exaggerating. There are so many ways to chat, send pictures, videos and other things through so many different messaging apps it's insanely easy.

Thanks, nekkidtruth, I did see a lot of those apps. I am looking for one, like Google Voice, that allows communication to the other person's regular phone number without forcing them to install another app.

I would MMS to their number with this app, they would reply to a different number than my regular phone so I would not need a text / message plan.

I guess Google Voice has set the Gold Standard for me in the way it does SMS.

Generally MMS are sent over carrier to a phone number. There isn't really a way around it (other than the MMS being sent over Wifi when it's available).

However, I was able to find HeyWire which claims you're able to send to any phone regardless if the other person has it installed or not. Use at your own risk though. No idea whether it works.

Heywire works for texts, not sure about mms. A family member ran out of prepaid minutes and installed it to be able to keep in touch with me over wifi. She is not a techie, so wasn't even going to look at VoIP. I never installed it because I hate apps that stick an advertising footer at the botom of an email/text for your recipient. In-app advertising is 1 thing, spamming your friends is entirely different.
