[CATV] Do I need to subscribe to TV service to access Watch ESPN
Now that Charter subscribes to Watch ESPN I am considering dropping TV service completely. We watch most of our TV via Hulu and Netflix now and the few shows not available there we can purchase from Amazon.
Does anyone know if Charter considers a TV subscription a requirement to access watchespn?

Yes, you need to be a subscriber to a traditional video package that includes ESPN in order to watch those linear networks streaming live.
However, Charter (the ISP side) previously inked a deal with ESPN3 so you will be able to watch select programming on ESPN3 (non-linear). These are generally non-marquee events.
Sure they signed the deal but when it actually goes into effect is anyone's guess. My bet is that you are looking sometime in the spring/early summer. Charter still needs to build out and test their authentication piece. I'm sure you'll hear all about it when it's close.
Note: If Charter is your current ISP you have access to WatchESPN now. Only it's limited to watching the ESPN3 (non-linear) programming.
DA you were probaly watching ESPN3. WatchESPN will ask you for your TV provider and then present you the options. Charter is still not one of the options.
