Re: Meteor blows up over Russia - some thought it was big one What I love about this is what we never saw it coming. We're busy watching the larger ones. Sure, a 10-50 foot (est.) object will cause some injuries and make the news, but a 300+ foot object is likely to cause extinction.
The problem is there is no reliable (proven) way to deflect an object, at least right now.
As much as we like to think we're in control of our daily lives, we're not. Stop at every stop sign, or don't. Feed the bees, pet the trees, swim in the seas. One day, a big one will come and maybe we'll know about it, and maybe we won't. You can't worry about these things, although we should do what we can do to make ourselves prepared.
